If life has you feeling like Atlas bearing the weight of the sky or Sisyphus pushing a boulder up the mountain, you may have lost the purpose and peace that makes life meaningful. Battles and challenges of existence leave us with invisible weights and chains, stifling our voice, our will, and our inner power. I specialize in working with neurodivergency, caregivers, and women; those learning to unmask and embrace their truth, or those who are navigating overwhelming life transitions and identity shifts. Whatever your needs may be, therapy can be a space to rest, to rediscover your voice, and to remember who you are and once were.

“Storms make trees take deeper roots” - Dolly Parton Finding the right therapist is an essential component of the therapeutic relationship, and I like to say that while I may not be everyone’s cup of tea, I am more like a cup of coffee. While still warm and comforting, I am a therapist who is ready to get to work and bold enough to identify patterns and behaviors that may be getting in the way of building the life you want to live. My ideal clients are open to exploring themselves and ready to put in the work while also forming a supportive and nonjudgmental therapeutic relationship.

You are not your thoughts, but sometimes it feels impossible to convince your brain of that. Whether you are trapped in an exhausting loop of OCD doubts, navigating the heavy weight of complex trauma, or trying to manage overwhelming anger and stress, your mind can feel like an unsafe place to be. You might be an adult trying to unpack years of survival patterns, or a parent watching your child struggle to regulate their emotions. No matter how stuck you feel right now, you do not have to carry this heavy burden alone, and you do not have to figure it out by yourself.

Hi there! My name is Shannon and I am happy you are here! One of my favorite quotes about life is by Fred Rogers, which says, “anything that is human is mentionable, and anything that is mentionable can be more manageable”. Life inevitably comes with challenges and painful experiences, which can feel overwhelming and shift how we see ourselves, others, and the world. Carrying it alone is exhausting, and can make life feel unmanageable. Some aspects in life are out of our control, others we have some control. Therapy can be hard. Living with unresolved trauma is also hard. My hope for you is that you choose your hard with purpose!

My clients have tried talk traditional talk therapy and have felt like they've hit a wall. The same patterns keep showing up in relationships, in work, in how they treat themselves. I work with people who need more than surface-level coping strategies, who want to trust themselves again without second-guessing every decision.

Women's Issues Therapists
How do you encourage a woman to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual may be suffering, and what effects it has on them, should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.

How can women prepare for therapy?
Women can prepare for therapy by being willing to talk about their past experiences and their private thoughts. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. Between sessions, it can be useful to write down notes about their reaction to a given event or how they felt at a particular time.

How long does therapy for women’s issues often last?
As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual and the challenges they face. Therapy types like Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Prolonged exposure therapy (PET), and Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. In some cases, such as for women with eating disorders, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

How can women overcome stigma around specific challenges in order to seek therapy?
Women dealing with domestic abuse, sexual assault, eating disorders, and any other number of troubles may feel a stigma around seeking help. It’s important to remember that these issues are not uncommon and there is no shame in getting help for them. Therapy is confidential, and women can talk about their experiences without fear of judgment. Seeking therapy can be a courageous and liberating act, and an important step toward healing and recovery.
