I work with substance use, acute mental health, suicidal ideation, self harm, sexual, physical, emotional and financial abuse.
Sometimes we know we want something to change, but we just don’t know how to get there. I know that feeling, and I also know how hard it can be to reach out for help. If you’re here looking for support, that in itself takes courage. I believe in collaboration, empowerment, and a strengths-based approach. I’ll sit with you through the difficult stuff, gently challenge you when needed, and support you as we find a path forward. I work with all ages, genders, and backgrounds, with a special interest in teens, families, and those impacted by interpersonal violence, including domestic and sexual violence.

Realizing you need help is one thing, but actually asking for it? That’s where the real superpower comes in. We all go through stuff, whether it's issues with your parents, school, family, spouse, work, or just life in general. As a therapist, I get to help you know yourself better, tackle those challenges, and help you pick up some tools to handle whatever comes your way. I started my career as a mentor, working with foster kids in kindergarten through seniors in high school. I helped them navigate school, the challenges of being a kid in foster care, working through feelings of anger, frustration, and other challenges.

Navigating clients through changing core childhood beliefs about themselves, others, and the world is the cornerstone of my practice. By rewriting these foundational narratives, you can experience a profound transformation in your sense of belonging and in your relationship dynamics.

I specialize in trauma, anxiety, emotional dysregulation, relational issues, and grief and loss. Unlike many therapists I don’t just want to listen but help get to the root cause of what is making life difficult. One way I do that is by helping you understand your emotions and working on underlying self-worth issues. Most of our problems stem from denying our real feelings which leads to core social, emotional, and spiritual needs that go unmet. I truly believe that identifying these needs and acting on them is the key to individual happiness and fulfilling relationships.

I have been working with individuals, couples, families, and children for over 20 years. I primarily use a collaborative, strength-based approach to individual, family and couples' therapy, play therapy with children, and when working with diverse populations. I believe that the majority of people have an internal desire and wisdom that directs them toward healing and changing for the better. Similar to our bodies, the brain naturally knows how to heal given the right conditions. I believe that my role as a therapist is to help people tap into the resiliency of the human spirit.

Suicidal Ideation Therapists
How does therapy for suicidal ideation work?
Stress, depression, anxiety, or upsetting circumstances can give rise to suicidal thinking. Therapy can address the events at the core of an individual’s suffering. Understanding why a person may be suicidal can help the therapist and the patient discover alternative methods of coping. A person with suicidal ideation may be mired in catastrophic thinking, and treatment like cognitive behavioral therapy is a good choice for breaking such patterns. In addition, treatment such as acceptance and commitment therapy can help a person manage their distress through better emotion regulation.

Which therapies are best for suicidal ideation?
Specific approaches used by professionals include cognitive behavioral, dialectical behavior, psychodynamic, acceptance and commitment therapies, among others. Cognitive behavioral and dialectical behavior therapies are two widely used therapies that can help individuals with painful thoughts and past traumas. These therapies help an individual tolerate distress, regulate emotions, and not act on dangerous urges.

Are there specific medications to be combined with therapy?
The use of medication for suicidal thoughts must be aligned with the underlying cause; conditions such as depression, anxiety, and psychosis may be at the root of suicidal ideation. A psychiatrist may prescribe medications for symptoms, which may include antipsychotics such as aripiprazole or antidepressants such as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors.

How often and how long are therapy sessions for suicidal ideation?
As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual. Patients may see improvement within 15 to 20 sessions, at an average of 50 minutes per session, while others may opt for 20 to 30 sessions over, perhaps, a six-month period. Still other patients, especially those with co-occurring conditions like major depression and anxiety, may need to continue sessions for up to 12 to 18 months. In some cases, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm.
