I am trained in EMDR, DBT and MBSR and I use these tools to help clients process and cope with traumatic events as well as daily life stressors and everything in between. Many of the people I work with are dealing with anxiety, depression, trauma, or challenges related to adoption, identity, relationships, or life transitions.
I’m trained in EMDR and combine that with art and sand tray therapies, especially for clients who process experiences in more visual or creative ways. My approach is flexible and collaborative; I believe therapy works best when it’s shaped by what’s meaningful to you.

Ugh, starting with a new therapist is nerve-racking! No one wants to start all over and tell their whole life story again. I promise you this will be (relatively) painless. People describe meeting with me as like talking to a favorite aunt or a trusted friend. Together, we can figure out where you are and how to get you where you want to go.

I have been working with individuals, couples, families, and children for over 20 years. I primarily use a collaborative, strength-based approach to individual, family and couples' therapy, play therapy with children, and when working with diverse populations. I believe that the majority of people have an internal desire and wisdom that directs them toward healing and changing for the better. Similar to our bodies, the brain naturally knows how to heal given the right conditions. I believe that my role as a therapist is to help people tap into the resiliency of the human spirit.

My first and most important priority is to make you feel safe and understood in my office. Through emotional support, unconditional regard, and specialized techniques I have helped hundreds of individuals work through childhood wounds, trauma, betrayals, life changes, and more. That training includes, but is not limited to: Gottman for marriage therapy and new families, ACT/mindfulness for trauma and anxiety, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for most mental health disorders.

I love helping clients of all ages in their journey of self exploration and progression. As a therapist, I have witnessed people grow and heal through experiencing the power of a therapeutic relationship that is authentic, compassionate, and caring. The therapy room is a space of vulnerability, and I do all that I can to ensure you are seen, heard, and validated in your experience as we work together.

My background working with children in foster care and post adoption has enabled me to effectively provide support and guidance for people of all walks of life.
I am accustomed to looking at a situation from all angles; biological, psychological, social, and spiritual. My proficiency in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance Commitment Therapy and EMDR can help put an end to suffering and begin a path of healing and empowerment.

I am passionate about helping others regain their freedom through processing trauma. When I started my own addiction recovery process I had to heal my own traumas and wounds. In 2016 I started the UnashamedUnafraid podcast to be a voice of hope, speaking personally about sexual addiction recovery. Now I work with others to help them experience the freedom of healing. I also enjoy leading groups and individuals through life-changing workshops. My core belief about the healing process is that it comes from within. Everyone already has what they need to heal. Hope is possible for every heart no matter how big the trauma or hopeless.

I enjoy working with a variety of people from diverse backgrounds. My passion has been trauma treatment from the first moment I started working with clients in grad school. I also spent three years working at an addictions treatment center, and I have empathy for those struggling with substances. While trauma is my passion, I also handle depression, anxiety, bipolar and grief reactions on a daily basis. If you are ready for a change, or would like to be ready for change, let's talk about how to help you move through these steps together.

When trauma or anxiety hits a child, it doesn’t look like adult stress. It looks like explosive meltdowns, sleepless nights, or that constant, awful "jelly in the stomach" feeling they can't quite explain. You are tired of watching them hurt, and you want your happy kid back. I’m here to help you make that happen.
I am a dynamic, creative play therapist and psychotherapist specializing in turning big, scary feelings into manageable ones. Children don’t heal by just sitting on a couch and talking—they heal through action, creativity, and play.

Adoption Therapists
Does my adopted child need therapy?
Not every adopted child needs therapy. However, many can benefit from seeing an adoption-informed therapist, especially if they were victims of abuse or neglect, appear withdrawn or disconnected, have behavioral or developmental issues (which may or may not be related to their adoption), are struggling with feelings of grief or loss surrounding their birth parents, or find it difficult to establish an identity, a challenge that often becomes most apparent during adolescence.
When should adoptive parents seek therapy?
Prospective parents can benefit from therapy even before an adoption—for example, to voice worries and fears; to reconcile infertility struggles, if relevant; or simply to prepare themselves for parenthood. After the adoption, parents who are struggling to bond with their child; are unsure how to talk about adoption or related issues, such as race; or whose child is dealing with developmental, behavioral, or psychiatric concerns can address these and other issues with the help of an adoption-competent therapist.
Is family therapy appropriate for adoptive families?
Family therapy can be invaluable for strengthening the bond between adoptive parents and children, helping the latter feel more secure in their place in the family. Family therapy can also help adoptive families navigate complex communication issues—for example, parents who feel uncomfortable discussing race with their child, who in turn feels invalidated by their silence, or a child who has questions about his birth parents but avoids asking them out of fear of hurting his adoptive parents’ feelings.
What therapy is not appropriate for adoption issues?
A discredited therapy known as “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy” or “rebirthing therapy”) should not be used to treat adopted and foster children, though it was largely designed for this population. Attachment therapy involves restraining, coercing, and punishing the child in order for them to “release” negative emotions and attach to their new caregivers—techniques that are abusive and dangerous and have even proven fatal in some cases.
