We all get stuck. "Stuck" could mean: a miserable job; a tough relationship; or difficulty adjusting to life-changing news, and not knowing what to do next. Therapy is a great place to find help getting unstuck and regaining your life's momentum. I help my clients move on from stagnation and help them reach a place that they feel is healthy. Every experience is different and therapy is appropriately designed according to the client's concerns.

My approach to therapy is empathic, collaborative, and unique to each individual's own needs. I believe the most important component of effective counseling is a genuine relational connection. I strive to create a therapeutic environment in which clients feel comfortable, respected, supported, and understood so that they may actively explore personal issues and experiment with new ways of thinking and behaving. Too often we spend our lives living either in the past or in the future, and consequently struggling with feelings of depression or anxiety.

635 Community Health Collective focuses on supporting Black, Indigenous, POC, and LGBTQ+ children, teens, and adults navigating issues related to identity, trauma (racialized or other), depression, anxiety, and substance abuse. As BIPOC clinicians we strive to hold space for individuals as they find new ways to make themselves whole. We believe that when we explore and begin to connect our thoughts, emotions, sensorimotor experiences, and our relationships with others, we can understand what it is like to feel safe in our own bodies, and engage in problem solving and intentional decision making.

In response to covid-19, I am now accepting new clients either via video or phone session. Insurance will still cover these types of visits! I am committed to helping you build confidence and hope through developing credible plans and an understanding of your strengths and struggles. For many people, seeking counseling can be uncomfortable because it requires looking deeply at one's life, or because of uncertainties about counseling's effectiveness. In addition to relying on evidence informed practices, we are consumer centered and will partner with you to help find solutions!

I’ve found most people are tired of listening to their shame voice. It’s the voice of “should” and “must”, which says if you don’t do as is expected, you aren’t good enough, you’re broken, or you’re unlovable. And many have lived with that voice for so long, they’ve assumed it to be an authentic voice, rather than an outside one. You want to be free of the unrealistic expectations put onto you by others that have been internalized. You crave a little more connection, and a lot less judgment.

There are times we find ourselves metaphorically stuck on the side of the road. It can be discouraging and lonely to be without the fuel or energy to get back on a path that aligns with our values. Instead, we may battle a relentless loop of familiar thoughts that keep us stuck. We may lose our connection to self while trying to stay connected to others. Possibly there are parts of our story that test our view of ourselves. We may be relating to ourselves conditionally, believing we don’t have the heart, brains, or courage.

Life has become even more challenging since the beginning of COVID for so many reasons. You may feel like something is wrong with you. You may be sick and tired of being tired. After giving your best with life and relationships, you might be confused why you still feel so broken. Living with depression and anxiety, trauma or domestic violence, abuse and PTSD can make everything harder. Life can start to feel impossible especially when few truly understand. Others tend to give well meaning advice and so often it only emphasizes that there must be something wrong with you.

It is my goal to collaborate with each client to determine their unique needs and utilize a variety of treatment techniques as needed. Some of the techniques in which I specialize are Reality Therapy and Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy.

Therapy can be a transformative process. My hope is to bring compassion and curiosity into our work, and together, co-create a space that feels authentic, transparent, and just safe enough to explore past experiences of pain and trauma. When we gain insight into how our past influences our present, we open up our capacity for choice and step into new ways of being that align with our values. I am also a native Spanish speaker and offer therapy in both English and Spanish.

Welcome! I'm glad you're here. There are many reasons why we reach out for help: life transitions, grief & loss, trauma, relationship issues. Sometimes it's simply that we "just feel stuck." I believe therapy is most effective when we first understand what healing and growth mean to you and set meaningful goals based on this vision. Healing comes from both understanding your existing strengths and unpacking your struggles. I take great care in creating a safe, kind, and nurturing therapeutic space to support this journey.

How can I find a therapist in Salt Lake City?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist, psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
