Whether this is your first time going to therapy, or you're starting again, I get how scary it can be! I use Internal Family Systems (IFS), Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing therapy (EMDR), Self-Compassion, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) as my main modalities, along with
psychodynamic
and attachment theory.
I believe trauma is not our fault, but healing from it is a choice we can make. I am here to help you along your healing journey! I have experience working with women, trans, and non-binary people struggling with eating disorders, body image issues, anxiety, and CPTSD. Maybe you've gone to therapy before and learned some coping skills but are ready to dig deeper into the roots that caused it in the first place, or maybe you've never been to therapy at all but feel ready to dig deep and need some guidance.

In our work together I use a mind body approach---meaning traditional talk therapy through a
Psychodynamic
lens, in addition to the felt-sense of the body or a Somatic/Nervous System approach---inviting a greater awareness of self and our responses.
Have you struggled with feeling good about yourself? How does your perception of yourself impact your life? Each of us have lived experiences that leave imprints on our lives sometimes impacting our ability to trust, and connect with ourselves and those around us. I aim to foster a space in therapy that invites room for curiosity, safety, and also bravery in order to encourage---growth, self-discovery and healing. I work with both young adults and adults who are experiencing never feeling enough, or have experienced: trauma, self-harming behaviors, eating disorders, body perception issues, perfectionism and negative self-perception.

My approach to treatment is fundamentally grounded in a
psychodynamic
approach.
I see adolescents and adults for psychotherapy, consultation, and assessment. I also see younger patients for psychological testing and assessment. My therapeutic work is guided by the idea that psychological distress is often related to habitual ways of perceiving and interacting with the world--ways that have protected and helped in the past, but now get in the way of living a more satisfying, enjoyable, and meaningful life. I am practical but also value thoroughness and depth. Whether it is something quite specific or a vague feeling that something is wrong, I would love to be in your corner.

I can also take a more
psychodynamic
approach utilizing talk therapy, DBT, CBT and Positive Psychology building awareness, compassion and calm, or a combination of the two.
Daily life can be scary, even daunting. For some of us, we have the additional stressors of trauma, loss, loneliness, addiction and loss of purpose. In therapy I strive to help individuals overcome their barriers. Happiness and balance are goals for me. I have experience treating addiction, trauma, depression, anxiety, bipolar, grief, relationship issues and more. Whether you view current barriers to be day to day stressors or intense trauma and PTSD, I can provide support, caring and understanding. My goal is for all of my clients to regain their purpose, feel connection and find more happiness in their lives.

I utilize various components of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), and Mindfulness techniques with a
Psychodynamic
approach.
My approach to therapy is empathic, collaborative, and unique to each individual's own needs. I believe the most important component of effective counseling is a genuine relational connection. I strive to create a therapeutic environment in which clients feel comfortable, respected, supported, and understood so that they may actively explore personal issues and experiment with new ways of thinking and behaving. Too often we spend our lives living either in the past or in the future, and consequently struggling with feelings of depression or anxiety.

I primarily provide treatment from a relational
psychodynamic
framework, which looks carefully at how early life experiences form the ways in which individuals experience themselves, relationships in their lives, and the world around them.
I work with adults wanting to pursue a deep understanding of themselves, increase relationship satisfaction, & make sense of and heal from painful experiences. I typically work with individuals that present with longstanding histories of anxiety, depression, difficulties in relationships, and issues related to identity development. I also have special interests and training in working with individuals that have experienced childhood trauma, relational trauma, and with the LGBTQ+ community. My approach is warm, containing, and genuine, in hopes to allow my patients to enter into the more difficult aspects of their healing process.

I use a
Psychodynamic
and Mindfulness approach to achieve self-compassion/understanding of one's needs by considering both conscious and unconscious levels.
You deserve to feel seen and live a life of authenticity without the stress and anxiety of being afraid to show others who you are or who you want to be. So often we find ourselves holding back our needs to ensure the needs of others are being met but this pattern leaves many of us feeling lonely and isolated in our relationships. Therapy can be a way to help you achieve the authenticity you are seeking through processing thoughts and feelings that might be getting in your way of showing up for yourself.

I draw upon several theoretical traditions, including
psychodynamic
and existential/humanistic.
I have worked with a wide variety of people over the years, and have come to recognize both the commonalities in what makes all of us human, but yet uniquely individual at the same time. These commonalities and differences can both sustain us and frustrate us as we seek meaningful engagement with life and others through work, relationships, and continued self-growth. Often people experience internal stress and anxiety as they feel the push and pull between loneliness on the one hand, and the inevitable mix of emotional challenges that can come with attachment with others.

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?
Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.
How long does psychodynamic therapy last?
Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.
Does psychodynamic therapy work?
Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.
What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?
Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
