I specialize in therapeutic Co- Parenting Facilitation post Divorce family therapy.
Hello! I'm Patty Martinez. I'm from Utah. I love the outdoors and enjoy the peace nature can bring. I also authentically enjoy working with people that are ready to make changes in their life. We all have our own expectation of what happiness and being normal all are. I'm not here to tell you what those are or to judge you for what you believe your joy or happiness is. However if there are parts of your life you'd like to change or would like to feel differently about through therapy I would like to help. At this time I am not working with any health insurance companies. I do work with HSA and take most credit cards and cash

Do you feel like you have lost touch with you partner, your teen, your parent , sibling or friendships? You may be stuck in a cycle of addictive behavior because you are avoiding pain in you life, from childhood, grief or present day stressors.
I’ve heard it said that pain is the touchstone to growth. Have you been avoiding pain? Everything we see tells us we are always supposed to be happy, “put on a happy face”. True growth and happiness comes through facing pain and learning skills, tools and techniques that will lead lead to real happiness and inner contentment. Within the context of a supportive environment I can help you face your pain, and overcome blocks that are keeping you in pain. I can help to get you unstuck and learn to embrace challenges. Together we can identify your unique challenges and tools to overcome them.

Amy has certifications in Mind Body Medicine, Emotion Focused Parenting and Mindful Eating/Conscious Living.
Amy helps you to find the insight you need so your story can make sense again. We can all become unsure of how we got to where we are, where we are headed, and even what would make things better. We become emotionally, relationally, and even physically stuck, reacting in ways that are ineffective at best, and often just plain counterproductive. Amy brings to therapy a number of different approaches to assist you in finding personal insight, motivation, and connection. She supports clients in the act of turning to their internal experience as a guide to forming connections, making decisions, moving through difficult experiences.

I believe that it is within the parent /child relationship that healing is truly possible, and involve parents or caregivers in all aspects of treatment.
You don't have to do this alone. I have 20 years of experience dealing with issues affecting young children and their caregivers. I provide psychological assessment and treatment for Autism Spectrum Disorders (children and adults), parent /child relationship issues, abuse/trauma/neglect, and attachment/foster-care/adoption issues. All family members can receive assessment and treatment, regardless of age, in order to improve individual and family functioning, and the experience of joy. I also assess children in their school or daycare setting, and provide assistance with IEP/IFSP meetings. I use both relational and behavioral strategies for treatment.

I find success working with individuals struggling in relationships for the variety of reasons discord occurs, such as: frequent disagreeing, jealousy, affairs, parenting problems, sexual dissatisfaction (and other issues concerning sex), and discrepancy about life goals and dreams.
Are you feeling angry? Maybe in the dumps with little motivation? Is your mind often scattered or confused? Paralyzed by worry? Do you often experience conflict in relationships which mean the most to you? Does it seem like regardless of the efforts you make, returns are minimal to none? I have built my practice helping others reconnect to their innate place of clarity and well-being, to then resume life guided by their self-power and wisdom, experiencing a true satisfaction and success.

Finding a therapist can be an overwhelming and stressful experience. Whether or not you have been in counseling before, starting therapy can be hard since it requires vulnerability and trust which can feel challenging for a lot of people. Research has shown that therapy is successful when a client and therapist have a strong connection and form a safe relationship. Please feel free to call or email with any questions to see if you think the services I offer will fit with your specific needs.

Parenting Therapists

What does therapy for parenting look like?

Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.

When should a parent seek therapy?

When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.

How long does therapy take for parenting problems?

Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?

Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
