Over the last 10 years I've specialized in working with teens, young adults and their family systems. It's hard to find a good therapist who can sincerely help those struggling with depression, anxiety, failure to launch, oppositional defiance, substance
abuse
, relationship difficulties, lack of motivation and emotional regulation. If you're feeling stuck, angry, lost or confused, it can be helpful to meet with someone who can meet you where you are at and help you create a better life though understanding, compassion and confidence. I work especially well with parents and teens who have tried other options and ready for progress.

My training and education has focused primarily on the treatment of trauma and working with folks who have experienced sexual and interpersonal
violence
.
Therapy can be a transformative process. My hope is to bring compassion and curiosity into our work, and together, co-create a space that feels authentic, transparent, and just safe enough to explore past experiences of pain and trauma. When we gain insight into how our past influences our present, we open up our capacity for choice and step into new ways of being that align with our values. I am also a native Spanish speaker and offer therapy in both English and Spanish.

As a
domestic
violence
and trauma certified counselor, I offer authentic, realistic and empowering tools to move forward.
Life has become even more challenging since the beginning of COVID for so many reasons. You may feel like something is wrong with you. You may be sick and tired of being tired. After giving your best with life and relationships, you might be confused why you still feel so broken. Living with depression and anxiety, trauma or
domestic
violence
,
abuse
and PTSD can make everything harder. Life can start to feel impossible especially when few truly understand. Others tend to give well meaning advice and so often it only emphasizes that there must be something wrong with you.

and its resulting trauma.
I don’t believe any of us get through this life without some trauma. That could be a trauma with a small or big “t.” Regardless, it is my belief that everyone who walks through my door has most all the answers to their issues already. My role is to remove the barriers and roadblocks that prevent an individual from progressing and improving their self worth, and self efficacy. I employ a variety of interventions, including trauma-informed CBT and trauma-focused mindfulness. I believe strongly that finding the right therapist is about feeling comfortable and trusting in the therapist’s knowledge and skills.

Investing time to tell someone your story can be daunting. Let's make this comfortable - come as you are. I want to help you dismantle the harsh narratives we often take on, sometimes without even realizing it. Stories we tell ourselves shape our behaviors, relationships, physical health, & entire reality. Along with Narrative Therapy, our work will include multiple evidence-based modalities— all proven to relieve symptoms of PTSD, anxiety, depression, and increase self-esteem. I love working with both individuals & couples. I tell my clients all of the time, we heal in the context of healthy relationships! Let’s grow together.

Domestic Abuse Therapists
What are the most effective ways to recover from domestic abuse?
Leaving an abusive relationship requires tremendous courage, so survivors in treatment should recognize that they have already completed the most important step. Still, the trauma of physical or emotional abuse can be difficult to process and overcome. Therapy can help survivors process trauma, grief, and difficult emotions, treat relevant mental health symptoms, and create a new framework for boundaries and relationships in the future. For some, support groups can also be an invaluable outlet for healing.
When should an individual seek help for domestic abuse?
Victims of intimate partner violence should seek help immediately. It can take substantial time, planning, energy, and courage to leave an abusive relationship, but starting the process—by seeking therapy, calling the domestic violence hotline, or simply confiding in a loved one—will help them get there. Those who have left abusive relationships but haven’t sought treatment can also greatly benefit from therapy to process and heal from the experience.
What are the consequences of staying in an abusive relationship?
Remaining in an abusive relationship has serious repercussions. In addition to the ongoing threat of physical danger and emotional abuse, research shows that intimate partner violence is associated with a range of mental health disorders including depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, and substance abuse. Therefore it’s important for individuals in an abusive relationship to seek help as soon as possible.
How can you get domestic abuse treatment for someone else?
It can be very complicated to identify and leave an abusive relationship; barriers include the threat of violence, financial instability, and family pressures. Those concerned about a loved one in an abusive relationship should talk to them about the situation, provide them with resources such as the domestic violence hotline, and introduce the idea of seeing a therapist due to their concern for the person’s safety and well-being.
