I specialize in helping you to find a joyful, balanced, and grounded life. I believe the most effective route to change and healing is through connection - both within yourself and in relationships with others. Navigating transitions, relationships, and challenges can be complicated - and anxiety and
depression
make things difficult. In sessions we address painful feelings and experiences, resulting in increased happiness and better relationships. We will work together to uncover your authentic self, build tools to create change, and tune into your innate resiliency.

I have experience working with adults dealing with a variety of issues – life changes, chronic pain/illness, grief,
depression
and conflict within relationships.
A mentor once told me that therapy is the best gift you can give to yourself. Throughout my years as a therapist, this continues to ring true. I view therapy as an opportunity to connect, process, and work collaboratively to create positive and meaningful change. I see each person as an individual, and shape my approach to create a sense of openness and comfort. Together, we will identify values as well as obstacles. I believe that the relationship that develops in the therapy room is essential to healing and the therapeutic process is one of the most rewarding gifts you will ever experience.

Before becoming an LCSW I worked for many years as a medical assistant. My background and training in these fields helps me understand and guide patients / family members through illness and / or grief. I also have extensive experience helping people who are
depressed
or anxious. I believe that it is important to listen to clients and learn from them, rather than approaching their concerns as if I have all the answers. Together we can find ways for you, the client, to grow, cope with, and overcome stressors and difficulties in life.

I deeply enjoy working with adults and teens with ADHD, and individuals experiencing symptoms of
depression
and anxiety, or who want to gain a deeper understanding of who they are. Life’s challenges can leave you feeling stuck in pain, shame, or emptiness. You may have thoughts and feelings that stop you from connecting with others or knowing how you bring value to the world. If you have (or suspect you have) ADHD, you may feel overwhelmed from constantly trying to fit into a box that wasn't made for you. Together, we will explore your struggles, values, and strengths to cope with challenges and reconnect with your authentic self.

I work extensively with adults, adolescents, couples and families addressing the challenges in creating a satisfying and meaningful life. Often times we can feel stuck in our lives, using emotion-regulation and relational skills that served us in the past. Like outdated software, these skills no longer serve us as we have matured, as our circumstances have changed or as we have developed relationships with others who bring a different relational culture. This sense of stuckness may lead to
depression
, anxiety, addictions, compulsions and/or relational difficulties that leads people to work with me.

I have been working with adolescents suffering with relationship issues, anxiety, difficult personality structures,
depression
, addiction, self harm and eating disorders for 17 years, I have expanded to young adults to age 35.
I appreciate the complexity of people. I believe in trying to understand all aspects in someone's life and recognizing the impact of their experiences, relationships, and understandings into the current way of life. There are reasons for certain beliefs about ourselves and others. I utilize my training and my own self in helping a client come to witness ideas and behaviors within themselves And then, find ways to make changes, find balance, and maybe even happiness.

What is the goal of therapy for depression?
Therapy for depression has several major goals. One is to relieve the mental pain of depression, which distorts feeling and thinking so that sufferers cannot see beyond their current state of mind or envision feeling better. Another is to give people the mental tools to recognize and correct the kinds of distorted thinking that turn a problem into a catastrophe and lead to despair. Therapy also teaches people how to process negative emotions in constructive ways, so they have more control over their own emotional reactivity. And it helps people regain the ability to see themselves positively, the motivation to do things, and the capacity for pleasure.
What happens in therapy for depression?
Perhaps most important, no matter the type of therapy, patients form an alliance with the therapist; that connection is therapeutic in itself, plus it becomes an instrument of change. Patients learn to identify and to challenge their own erroneous beliefs and thoughts that amplify the effects of negative experiences. They learn to identify situations in which they are especially vulnerable. And they learn new patterns of thinking and behaving. They may be given “homework” assignments in which they practice their developing skills. In addition, good therapists regularly monitor patients to assess whether and how much the condition is improving.
What therapy types help with depression?
Several types of short-term therapy have been found effective, each targeting one or more areas of dysfunction. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) helps clients challenge their negative thoughts and beliefs, learn new behavioral strategies, and curb reactivity to distressing situations. Behavioral activation (BA) is a form of therapy often used in conjunction with CBT; it focuses on engagement in rewarding activity as a pathway to changing negative feelings and disturbed mood. Another widely used approach is interpersonal therapy (IPT), which targets the social difficulties that both give rise to and get exacerbated by depression. Therapists may combine approaches as needed.
Can therapy for depression be done online?
Studies have found that online therapy can be highly effective for treating depression, although it may be more challenging to build a good therapist-patient alliance on screen than in person—at least at first. However, online therapy can offer considerable advantages. Accessibility and convenience are tops among them. Some people actually find it easier to talk about problems online than in person. While online therapy typically limits visibility of facial expression and body gestures that give important nonverbal cues to a patient’s state of mind, it can give therapists a glimpse into a patient’s world and life, providing information that can be highly useful in guiding therapy.
How effective is therapy for depression?
Many studies show that therapy is highly effective provided that patients complete the prescribed course of therapy, commonly 16 to 20 sessions. Over the long term, it is more effective than medication and the effects are more enduring. As a result, psychotherapy has the power not just to relieve current suffering but to prevent future episodes of the disorder. Therapy reverses the dysfunction in neural circuitry that disposes individuals to a negative view of themselves, the world, and their future and they acquire coping techniques, problem-solving skills, and understanding of their own vulnerabilities that are useful over the course of a lifetime.
