I can also take a more psychodynamic approach utilizing talk therapy, DBT, CBT and Positive Psychology building awareness, compassion and calm, or a combination of the two.
Daily life can be scary, even daunting. For some of us, we have the additional stressors of trauma, loss, loneliness, addiction and loss of purpose. In therapy I strive to help individuals overcome their barriers. Happiness and balance are goals for me. I have experience treating addiction, trauma, depression, anxiety, bipolar, grief, relationship issues and more. Whether you view current barriers to be day to day stressors or intense trauma and PTSD, I can provide support, caring and understanding. My goal is for all of my clients to regain their purpose, feel connection and find more happiness in their lives.

For the most part we are all walking around pretending to be okay and hoping our positive affirmations, daily meditations, gratitude journal entries and the annoying latest push-up challenge will finally pay off with the bliss, confidence and motivation we see in our imaginary future selves. When in reality we might be feeling the cliché, "Hot MESS", which I will say has a certain je ne sais quoi about it. Right? The truth is we all have a core self who wants to be healed and has the power to do it!Yet it is almost impossible to do without true Connection, Compassion and Curiosity of who we really are.

My approach to therapy is empathic, collaborative, and unique to each individual's own needs. I believe the most important component of effective counseling is a genuine relational connection. I strive to create a therapeutic environment in which clients feel comfortable, respected, supported, and understood so that they may actively explore personal issues and experiment with new ways of thinking and behaving. Too often we spend our lives living either in the past or in the future, and consequently struggling with feelings of depression or anxiety.

I help individuals with stress, worry, anxiety, depression, and all kinds of emotional and life problems. If you're experiencing emotional distress, you know it can affect your peace of mind, relationships, work life and more. Consulting with a trained counselor is a great way to discuss sensitive issues with an impartial person. Counseling can be helpful in many ways; to solve a specific problem, make a decision, change behaviors, get support during a tough time, gain awareness, process feelings, trauma issues, etc. Therapy is a unique relationship geared toward your needs, emotional health, and personal growth.

See. Hear. Love. Relate. Heal. I have come to recognize that to heal, we must have permission to be our unfiltered and unadulterated selves. I am here to allow you to be you. To see you, hear you, love you, and relate with you. I will hold space with you, co-regulating and co-relating, so you can embrace your humanity in an environment filled with love and acceptance. Nothing is too ugly, traumatic, or uncomfortable to love. We can do this together and accept who you are to the fullest.

Therapy can be a dynamic experience creating hope and energy. Facing challenges and grieving losses we inevitably face is a powerful step in moving toward a more satisfying present. I view therapy as a collaboration with you to create your transformation and growth. Our past experiences shape our view of ourselves and in turn our potential in the future. I hope to assist you to "re-author" the stories you have about yourself not serving a positive purpose and replace them with new stories, skills and a vision that do.

Positive Psychology Therapists

How does positive psychology therapy work?

Positive psychology therapy derives from the work of Martin Seligman of the University of Pennsylvania. He and others developed the field of positive psychology building on humanistic theory. Positive psychology therapy is similar to acceptance and commitment therapy, and it essentially quiets emotional distress through positivity, contentment, and well-being. This therapy does not reduce the individual to symptoms and conditions.

When do I know if I need treatment using positive psychology?

If an individual is overwhelmed by emotional distress and general negativity, they may feel trapped. A positive psychology therapist can help them view their emotions and behaviors differently, and approach life with a better understanding of their positive strengths. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.

What should I expect from positive psychology therapy?

The patient may be asked to explore their signature strengths. The therapist will also ask the individual to talk about their goals, which should be specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, and timely. Discussing negative experiences and symptoms is important, but so is the exploration of positive experiences. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviors and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more positive and fulfilling way. This therapy is proactive and may use forgiveness, gratitude, hope, and compassion to help reframe negativity.

Is positive psychology effective in therapy?

Positive psychology therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with eating disorders benefit from this type of intervention. This therapy encourages the person to reframe their distressed thoughts and move into healthier patterns of functioning. This therapy also aims to move an individual toward what works well in their life. Positive psychology therapy can elicit lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioral habits.
