I know firsthand the struggle of divorce , teenagers acting out, being the caregiver of a special needs child, and having to start your life over.
***I currently have a waitlist for new patients*** I believe that therapy is a journey to build a better you. Whether that is moving through trauma, exploring and conquering anxiety, learning sports psychology tactics, raising your child (and dealing with the wonderful adolescent drama), fighting addiction, or strengthening your marriage, we're in this together. If you enter my therapy office, you are here to grow. While therapy is a process, it does not have to be a long, drawn out, difficult and treacherous.

These are comprehensive evaluations that investigate children's needs and parents' understanding of and ability to meet those needs, in the context of divorce .
I believe we all can live a life full of joy, meaning, and intimacy. I also know that sometimes life presents us with challenges that get in the way and leave us feeling diconnected and out of balance. I specialize in helping adolescents, adults, couples and families work through their challenges in a relaxed and safe therapeutic environment, where you feel accepted and heard.

My experience includes: divorce and single-parenting, adjustment issues, grief and loss, trauma, women's issues, and mood disorders, among other challenges.
People come to counseling for different reasons. Some need assistance to change, changing habits or patterns that no longer serve them, shifting focus or reframing experience to feel good again. Some need to heal, from a past or recent trauma, who are dealing with grief or loss. Counseling can speed up the change and healing process. We all need someone to talk with who listens and can accept us as we are, without judgement, to explore ways to make changes that allow us to look forward to the future with hope.

I am an experienced child therapist and my goal is to understand why a child or teen is struggling and to help children/adolescents and their caregivers develop skills so they feel more empowered in the areas where they struggle. Caregivers are a vital part of my work with children and I actively involve families in therapy to improve communication and meet goals for improvement. I view therapy as an experiment and I work collaboratively with my clients to achieve progress.

Come see me if you want a kind, caring, professional with years of experience treating relational and sexual trauma. I get how difficult it is to find a therapist and how much courage it takes to reach out. You are not "crazy" and you are not alone! Let's work on ways to improve communication, heal anxiety, and increase a healthy sense of interdependence and connection with those you love. I treat attachment issues, ADHD, ASD, PTSD, Childhood Trauma, and act as a translator/coach in relationships where one person is Neurodiverse and the other is Neurotypical. My approach is warm, sincere, collaborative and non-judgmental.

Finding a therapist can be an overwhelming and stressful experience. Whether or not you have been in counseling before, starting therapy can be hard since it requires vulnerability and trust which can feel challenging for a lot of people. Research has shown that therapy is successful when a client and therapist have a strong connection and form a safe relationship. Please feel free to call or email with any questions to see if you think the services I offer will fit with your specific needs.

I'm often told that I'm easy to talk to. I have had my own struggles and I know how scary it can feel to be so vulnerable and uncertain of who to trust. I'm honored to have worked with so many people over the years in the most dire of circumstances and to have witnessed them transform their experiences into a life of purpose. I have worked extensively with teens, families and women in crisis. I have worked with many people suffering from schizophrenia and other related disorders. This was an eye opening experience in understanding how the mind works.

I enjoy working with adults who are dealing with the after-effects of chronic trauma throughout childhood. This can mean high levels of emotional reactivity, intrusive memories of difficult past events, and difficulties in obtaining and maintaining important interpersonal relationships. My ideal client is looking for ways to feel safe and secure in the world and to, as Dr. Marsha Linehan would say, "build a life worth living." I also feel confident working with clients experiencing depression, anxiety and other interpersonal issues.

Divorce Therapists

How does therapy for people affected by a divorce work?

Individuals may feel a number of emotions following a divorce, such as shock, guilt, grief, anger, and fear. Therapists offer a non-judgmental space for individuals to talk about what they’ve experienced and process their emotions. Therapists will help clients develop coping strategies. They can also help a client rebuild their sense of self and self-worth and talk about what a happier future might look like.

What’s the most common type of therapy following a divorce?

There are several types of therapy that may be useful for divorce, including cognitive behavioral, acceptance and commitment, solution-focused brief, and mindfulness-based therapies. Many therapy types are talk-therapy based, which is typically the most popular option for individuals dealing with divorce. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a widely-used talk therapy, however, there’s no specific therapy type that’s designed to help people with divorce, and different types will work depending on the person.

When should an individual seek help due to a divorce?

When the feelings of a divorced individual, or an individual going through the process of divorce, begin to disrupt healthy daily functioning, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If a person finds that they are not performing at work due to problems with anxiety or motivation, if they’re no longer seeing friends due to feelings of shame, or if they’re not properly taking care of themselves as a result of depression, speaking to a professional could help.

How do you encourage someone to go to therapy due to a divorce?

It’s helpful to express concern and love for the individual while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Sharing how the individual appears to be suffering, and what effects it has on them or on their children, should be done with compassion and empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
