The next suitable person you’re in light conversation with, you stop suddenly in the middle of the conversation and look at the person closely and say, “What’s wrong?” (...) He’ll say, “What do you mean?” You say, “Something’s wrong. I can tell. What is it?” He’ll look stunned and say, “How did you know?” He doesn’t realize something’s always wrong, with everybody. Often more than one thing. He doesn’t know everybody’s always going around all the time with something wrong and believing they’re exerting great willpower and control to keep other people, for whom they think nothing’s ever wrong, from seeing it. - David Foster Wallace

I invite you to experience a cooperative therapy relationship in which you have the freedom to be yourself, to be imperfect, to laugh, and to evolve. Do you look like you have it all together, but inside, you struggle to enjoy life? Despite your best efforts at change, do you feel stuck? People who reach out to me are high achieving and high functioning adults often with successful careers, families, and/or social lives. Despite their accomplishments, however, they struggle privately with emotional concerns including anxiety, grief, self-doubt, unresolved trauma, perfectionism, chronic pain, and relationship problems.

I don’t believe any of us get through this life without some trauma. That could be a trauma with a small or big “t.” Regardless, it is my belief that everyone who walks through my door has most all the answers to their issues already. My role is to remove the barriers and roadblocks that prevent an individual from progressing and improving their self worth, and self efficacy. I employ a variety of interventions, including trauma-informed CBT and trauma-focused mindfulness. I believe strongly that finding the right therapist is about feeling comfortable and trusting in the therapist’s knowledge and skills.

I deeply believe that we all have unique abilities and different ways of seeing the world, thus counseling does not offer a one-size-fits-all solution. I will join you in your journey of growth and self-understanding based on your individual needs. You will find me warm and supportive, and leave your sessions with a certainty that I listen and care. We each have depth and intuition-which can get buried by the stress, trauma, or grief. I am passionate in meeting you where you are at, while walking with you to re-connect with your "inner-voice."

We all deserve a space where we can feel free to be open, to show our vulnerabilities, and to work through the barriers that prevent us from feeling whole. I utilize my counseling skills and various modalities to create a safe environment for those suffering from trauma, depression, anxiety, stress, grief, and the challenges of life transitions. I help those with whom I work identify any habits, such as addictions to drugs, food, self-harm, or white noise, which may be interfering with their efforts to overcome suffering.

Is your present relationship complicated and sometimes painful? Are you experiencing loneliness, anxiety, and discouragement? Committing to someone requires courage and vulnerability. I work with couples, families, and individuals applying the principles of EFT which is a research-based treatment for clients seeking emotional safety and connection. EFT can help you understand the painful patterns that cause emotional disconnection. I would love to offer you tools to successfully achieve connection, personal growth, greater self confidence, and helpful insight in your quest for hope, healing and fulfillment.

These are difficult times, and it may feel impossible to find a therapist to work with. I offer services via telehealth, and have experience providing treatment via this modality for quite some time (prior to the COVID-19 pandemic). In addition to offering therapy, I also offer clinical supervision to other mental health professionals struggling how to navigate telehealth and the new world we must all work in. Please feel free to contact me for therapy, clinical consultation, or supervision. I am always willing and glad to offer any help where possible. I also offer reduced fee for my services during this time, if necessary.

Most clients I see experience anxiety and depression. These are life's greatest thieves, stealing away joy and hope and leaving many clients to feel powerless. Depression and anxiety usually accompany stress that comes with problems in personal or work relationships, or failing health. Or perhaps it runs deeper than that and you have been dogged by fear and melancholy for most of your life, searching but not finding any explanation. Most clients lose faith that they can overcome these problems. I help clients find their personal strengths and overcome beliefs that leave them feeling vulnerable.

I work extensively with adults, adolescents, couples and families addressing the challenges in creating a satisfying and meaningful life. Often times we can feel stuck in our lives, using emotion-regulation and relational skills that served us in the past. Like outdated software, these skills no longer serve us as we have matured, as our circumstances have changed or as we have developed relationships with others who bring a different relational culture. This sense of stuckness may lead to depression, anxiety, addictions, compulsions and/or relational difficulties that leads people to work with me.

How can I find a therapist in Greater Avenues, Salt Lake City?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
