Clients who work with me appreciate my lived experience as a partner , parent and co-parent.
Life has become even more challenging since the beginning of COVID for so many reasons. You may feel like something is wrong with you. You may be sick and tired of being tired. After giving your best with life and relationships, you might be confused why you still feel so broken. Living with depression and anxiety, trauma or domestic violence, abuse and PTSD can make everything harder. Life can start to feel impossible especially when few truly understand. Others tend to give well meaning advice and so often it only emphasizes that there must be something wrong with you.

I am currently focusing on intensive psychotherapy or psychoanalysis to address deeper issues and problems which may not have responded adequately to psychotherapy. The techniques I use enhance self-understanding and are beneficial for relationship issues, entrenched personality traits, and reducing personal limitations. I see children and adults with a variety of issues including: depression, anxiety, personality difficulties, and abuse issues. I also have expertise in mother-infant issues. If you want regular psychotherapy/counseling, I do that too. I will respond faster to phone calls than email. See my website at: beckybaileyphd.com

I specialize in helping people respond more effectively to painful feelings, bothersome worry, and upsetting memories. The frantic feeling of anxiety, emotional roller coaster of relationship stress, or sadness of depression don't have to be part of your life forever. Sometimes even our best efforts to fix things miss the mark and leave us stuck in a rut. While harsh thoughts and tough feelings may seem like they have a grip on your life, therapy can often help reduce your struggle, refocus on what's most meaningful to you, and develop a healthier relationship with yourself and others.

I would love to help you unlearn harmful sexual messages, and equip you with the knowledge and skills to create a relationship with your sexual self that is based in health and pleasure.
Are you looking for a sex therapist to help you navigate issues like sexual frequency, sexual shame, relational communication, infidelity, and sexual disorders (i.e., erectile dysfunction, painful intercourse, anorgasmia, low sex drive/arousal, out of control sexual behaviors)? I work with individuals, couples , people navigating non-monogamy, and other sexual minorities who often feel there are things about sex and their sexuality that they should know but haven't been able to ask or explore. It is important to me to create a safe space for you to learn the information that will enhance your sex life and relationship .

People exposed to relationship violence are usually unaware of the level of violence they are being exposed to and the violence escalates until it becomes life threatening.
If you have been exposed to a traumatic incident you may be unaware of how that event has affected your daily functioning. Later, you may have difficulty controlling your anger, sadness, anxiety, sleeping etc. To determine if your behaviors have been affected by exposure to a traumatic event or have Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), schedule and appointment with me for an assessment. I have a wide array of experience treating individual, families, and couples for a variety of issues including problems caused by trauma, depression, anxiety, poor communication skills, poor family functioning etc.

I enjoying working with individuals, as well as facilitating skills groups. I currently work with individuals that are navigating various life events, and attempting to improve their quality of life! In addition, many of the people I see look for assistance in navigating faith transitions, relationship difficulties, ruminative thoughts, trauma, and ineffective patterns of behavior. I enjoy a DBT, CBT, Attachment Theory, and Mindfulness approach to my work with clients. Overall, I work to normalize the experiences that my clients are having. We all make sense, in the context of our unique lives and experiences!

Therapy can be a significant help in finding relief from difficult feelings such as anger, grief, or sadness. Therapy is also an effective tool in finding solutions and confidence in difficult relationships, or with behaviors that you or a loved one may be struggling with. I acknowledge the courage it can take to seek assistance, as a therapist I always focus on clients strengths. I often work with adults coping with anxiety and depression, relationship difficulties, marital issues, or various types of PTSD. I take a special interest in working with trauma, dissociation, and dissociative disorders in adults.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
