Golden Horse Counseling exists because so many of us feel disconnected—from our bodies, our emotions, even our own stories—and don’t know why. As an EMDR Consultant and lifelong learner, I continually deepen my expertise so I can meet each client and fellow therapists exactly where they are. I draw on advanced training in EMDR, Structural dissociation, Deep Brain Reorienting, & Equine‑Assisted EMDR to inform every session. Here, we don’t “fix” problems; we open a safe, supportive space to explore, integrate, and transform. Together, you’ll rewrite your narrative, take hold of the reins, and gallop confidently into the next chapter.

If you're feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or unsure how to move forward, you're not alone. I work with teenagers and adults who are navigating anxiety, depression, school or work stress, identity questions, and major life changes. With my background in crisis work and the emergency room, I understand how heavy things can feel - and how important it is to have someone steady, calm, and supportive by your side. I especially enjoy working with teens and young adults, helping them build confidence, coping skills, and a stronger sense of self. I offer evening appointments making it easier for busy students and working adults to get help.

One of my deepest held beliefs is that, in general, everyone is doing the best they can in life with what they currently believe to be true. Rather than feeling judged or ashamed of one's personal life struggles, people need to feel supported through being offered new ideas and by being reminded of their own inborn, unwavering worth. In my therapy practice, I strive to help others reconnect with that worth and with their own personal value system that their hearts know to be true. We are all students of life and we are all still learning.

I want to help you to get back to enjoying life again! Maybe anxiety, depression or intense emotions have made life feel heavier than it should. You may be tired of trying to hold it all together or wondering why things keep feeling so hard. You are not broken, and you do not have to figure it out alone. In therapy, we can make sense of what you are experiencing, understand the patterns that keep repeating, and begin creating real change so you can feel more grounded, connected, and like yourself again.

I specialize in personality disorders, coping skills, and trauma.
Realizing you need help is one thing, but actually asking for it? That’s where the real superpower comes in. We all go through stuff, whether it's issues with your parents, school, family, spouse, work, or just life in general. As a therapist, I get to help you know yourself better, tackle those challenges, and help you pick up some tools to handle whatever comes your way. I started my career as a mentor, working with foster kids in kindergarten through seniors in high school. I helped them navigate school, the challenges of being a kid in foster care, working through feelings of anger, frustration, and other challenges.

Personality Disorders Therapists
What are the common treatment options for personality disorders?
Personality disorders are typically treated with psychotherapy, sometimes in conjunction with medication. Therapy can help people with personality disorders develop skills to tolerate difficult emotions, navigate interpersonal relationships, and solidify their sense of self. Medications can treat symptoms that co-occur with the disorder, such as depression, anger, aggression, and impulsivity.

When to seek treatment for personality disorders?
Even though treatment for personality disorders can be an uphill battle, it’s best to seek help if you suspect that you or a loved one is struggling with one, because personality disorders can create substantial problems in life. Symptoms depend on the specific disorder, but overall signs of personality disorders include consistent difficulty maintaining close relationships, dramatic variations in self-esteem, and an unstable sense of identity.

How long does therapy take for personality disorders?
The timeline for treating personality disorders isn’t as clear-cut as it is for other disorders. Change can be difficult, taking from around one year to five, 10, or more. The key is finding a therapist who has extensive experience treating the relevant disorder. For example, a psychologist who specializes in narcissistic personality disorder has specific communication strategies that allow them to sustain the relationship and be more effective with narcissistic patients.

Can therapy help people with personality disorders?
Research suggests that for those who are motivated to address concerns or interpersonal conflict related to a personality disorder, therapy is far more effective than no treatment, and that most people in therapy see improvements. However, since personality disorders involve entrenched elements of identity, they are less responsive to treatment than are other mental health conditions. Finding an expert who has extensive experience working with a given personality disorder is one factor that increases the likelihood of successful treatment.
