I like to come at therapy kind of like I would a drummer at a jam session. I'm there to find a groove with another voice. I want to communicate with you and help you to open up and learn to express yourself. We will seek understanding first and then we will find a way to encourage healing and growth that is unique to you and builds a stronger identity. I am strengths-based and I like to find existing skills to help a client build a new way of thinking and interacting with their body. This is also a very effective way of beginning the process of healing symptoms of PTSD in conjunction with other evidence based trauma treatments.

Helping my clients achieve success is what brings me joy. I have been a therapist for over 30 years and I have worked with just about any problems or challenges you can imagine. My experience helps me be perfectly calm and hopeful no matter what you bring to the table. I can offer perspective that less experienced helpers simply can't. And I absolutely love what I do, so I'm looking forward to seeing how I can help you.

Physical tension, existential fears, mood swings, chronic stress, problematic habits and relationship patterns can all come from unresolved events (traumatic or otherwise). As long as these events remain unresolved, those struggles will continue. Maybe you've tried self-help books, coaches, or therapy before, but they felt like just another polite conversation or useful information that doesn't seem to actually spark change. You want to understand what's happening, why, and do something about it, not just be validated and change nothing.

I work with teens, young adults, and families who feel stuck, overwhelmed, or misunderstood. Many are dealing with trauma, substance abuse, behavioral challenges, anxiety, depression, family conflict, or difficult life transitions. Some come from foster care or unstable environments and are searching for direction and stability. They need trust, structure, support, and someone who will genuinely listen without judgment. Their goals are to improve relationships, regulate emotions, build confidence, stay sober, succeed in life, and feel understood by someone who believes in their ability to grow and succeed.

EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing) therapy is also a form of trauma treatment I can walk you through in processing trauma and pain from your past.
Each person’s story has successes and struggles, and I believe every individual has what it takes to find healing and growth. As an Internal Family Systems (IFS) informed therapist, my efforts focus on accessing that healing and growth by exploring underlying beliefs, wounds, and fears that get in the way of you feeling connected with yourself and the important people in your life. Much of my work focuses on helping individuals struggling with anxiety, perfectionism, low self-esteem, complex and childhood trauma, and compulsive sexual behaviors, like pornography use.

Using an integrative approach to connect to the mind, body and self, I believe that the root of our pain is also the source of where our healing begins.
With nearly a decade of experience, I have supported individuals navigating trauma, chronic stress, neurodiversity, people pleasing, burnout and grief. Along with continued education in neuroscience and integrative health, I am devoted to therapy that explores how trauma shapes the nervous system and influences our mindset, beliefs and emotional responses.

As an abuse survivor living with OCD, chronic illness & physical disabilities, I have a high level of empathy for marginalized communities & trauma clients.
I am passionate about helping clients aged 13-40 with trauma, OCD, anxiety, & depression. I believe in treating everyone with respect, sensitivity, & compassion, regardless of background. Working with people from marginalized populations & concerns related to these areas (2S-LGBTQIA+, women's issues, religious trauma, racism, physical health concerns/ disabilities, adult children of immigrant families, etc.) is a passion of mine, but I am happy to work with those who are not part of these populations as well. I also enjoy working with other therapists! NOTE: Email is the best way to reach me, as I am with clients most of the day!

Chronic Pain Therapists
How does chronic pain therapy work?
Engaging with a psychotherapist to help treat chronic pain does not mean that one’s pain is all in their head. Therapy for chronic-pain patients has been shown to benefit both the mind and the body, targeting physical symptoms and increasing daily functioning. In other words, for many, addressing their emotional health through therapy affects their physical health. A therapist can help a client challenge unhelpful thoughts about pain and develop new ways to respond to it, such as distraction or calming breathing techniques. Studies have found that therapy can be as effective as surgery for certain cases of chronic pain and many doctors recommend trying psychotherapy in advance of considering invasive surgery.

What are the most effective treatment options for chronic pain?
Stress, anxiety, depression, catastrophizing, ruminating, lack of activity, and social withdrawal all make chronic pain worse. Addressing these issues, research shows, can help people gain control over their pain symptoms. Therapeutic approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy, biofeedback, and mindfulness-based stress reduction, along with greater pain-management education, have been found to help people reduce fear and disability.

Are there new treatments for chronic pain?
Many cases of chronic pain, particularly those involving back pain, remain medically unexplained. But there is evidence that changes in the brain or nervous system are caused by previous physical ailments such as tissue damage; in such cases, the brain may continue to send out pain signals despite the physical cause having healed. To aid patients under these circumstances, a recently developed treatment known as pain reprocessing therapy (PRT) is designed to help the brain “unlearn” this response. A PRT practitioner helps individuals to reduce the “threat value” of their ongoing pain signals until they can reappraise them as less threatening and fear-inducing. They also help an individual to develop new emotional regulation skills.

How long does therapy for chronic pain take?
There is no set timeline for recovery from chronic pain, especially as there may be a range of physical and psychological causes for any individual’s discomfort, but most patients should expect to see a therapist for a number of weeks or months, typically spanning at least 12 sessions. Studies of pain reprocessing therapy found that many individuals’ experience of pain lessened in eight sessions over four weeks.
