Golden Horse Counseling exists because so many of us feel disconnected—from our bodies, our emotions, even our own stories—and don’t know why. As an EMDR Consultant and lifelong learner, I continually deepen my expertise so I can meet each client and fellow therapists exactly where they are. I draw on advanced training in EMDR, Structural dissociation, Deep Brain Reorienting, & Equine‑Assisted EMDR to inform every session. Here, we don’t “fix” problems; we open a safe, supportive space to explore, integrate, and transform. Together, you’ll rewrite your narrative, take hold of the reins, and gallop confidently into the next chapter.

Are you feeling burned out, overwhelmed, or anxious from the weight of life’s challenges? Maybe you feel numb, as if you’re just moving through each day in survival mode. If so, you’re not alone. There is hope, and healing is possible. I know that starting therapy can feel intimidating, so my goal is to create a space where you feel welcomed, supported, and truly heard. My approach is person-centered and strengths-based because I believe you already are so resilient.

As an existentially-minded therapist, I am deeply committed to helping people find peace of mind, particularly as they navigate grief and end-of-life transitions. I understand the profound challenges of modern life, recognizing that many experience rushed living, lack of acceptance, and anxious or depressed moods, which can lead to unnecessary suffering, especially during times of significant loss and change. I am particularly attuned to the delicate and often overwhelming emotions associated with grief and loss, guiding individuals and families with compassion as they navigate these profound life passages.

During my 20+ year battle with an invisible chronic illness that medical professionals couldn’t solve, I learned how to improve my health and wellness through research, trainings, and even graduate school.
I have spent 20+ years in the coaching/counseling world. I specialize in working with teens and adults with chronic conditions like anxiety, depression, ADHD and many other conditions that create confusion around life’s many obstacles to reach their ultimate potential. I have also helped many find hope and strength through conditions like chronic fatigue, chronic pain, or even chronic brain fog. I have also worked for many years with athletes, teams, and business owners around simplicity, clarity, performance with setting and actually achieving important personal and professional goals.

Chronic illness is challenging to face, and I am someone who gets it and understands ways to help you live well in spite of it.
Every person has value and experiences challenges as part of living. I enjoy working with individuals helping with change and growth in their lives. I am excited to work with people in understanding challenges they face, helping them to work through these challenges in a more productive manner, and using the knowledge and tools I have to benefit their needs. I enjoy using the Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance & Commitment Therapy, Art & Sandtray; as well as Mindfulness techniques. Creating a safe place of trust is priority, a place where the client can open up and address their most sensitive and difficult challenges.

Many of my clients are college students and young adults navigating disability, chronic illness, or changes in mental health.
My style is warm, honest, and collaborative. I help clients feel seen and supported while building self-acceptance, self-compassion, and empowerment. I name patterns in real time, normalize experiences, and offer reflection plus practical strategies. Early sessions are more structured, then become more client-led over time.

Chronic Illness Therapists
How does therapy for chronic illness work?
Many people living with a chronic illness may feel they cannot speak honestly about their experience out of embarrassment or fear of being a burden, or because those close to them do not understand, for example, that they may “look good” even if they do not feel good. Therapy sessions are an opportunity to speak openly with someone who knows their symptoms are not in their head and who can offer practical, proven suggestions for managing feelings of grief, shame, or fatigue, such as techniques to challenge unhelpful thoughts about symptoms and develop new ways to respond to them, such as distraction or calming breathing practices.

Can therapy help with physical symptoms of chronic illness?
Yes, especially if an individual with chronic illness has developed depression. People with depression are less likely to maintain their health treatment regimens or to take positive steps to manage physical symptoms when they arise, thereby potentially complicating their medical prognosis. Treatment of depression, through talk therapy, medication, or both, will often improve one’s physical state as it eases the emotional burden of illness.

What are the most effective treatment options for chronic illness?
No one living with a chronic illness, or their loved ones, should see depression as an unavoidable result of their condition. Instead, they should actively seek treatment. Research shows that people with depression are less likely to devote the required time and effort to maintaining or monitoring their health, and so therapy to limit the risk of depression can be vital for physical health as well. Therapeutic approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy and mindfulness-based stress reduction have been found to help individuals reduce stress and anxiety.

How long does therapy for chronic illness take?
There is no set timeline for therapy for people living with chronic illnesses, but many will see a therapist for a number of weeks or months, typically spanning at least 12 weekly sessions. Some people feel that they experience progress faster than others but even some who quickly feel improvement may continue with sessions for months or years. Some people may benefit from maintenance therapy if their symptoms change or they experience a decline in physical health. Others find that the skills learned in short-term therapy can be used on an ongoing basis, even after therapy has concluded.
