Healing begins when you feel safe to show up fully as yourself—questions, emotions, contradictions and all. My work is centered around helping women, young adults, and faith-transitioning individuals make peace with their past, reconnect with their bodies, and move forward with greater clarity and self-trust. I specialize in working with trauma, body image, perfectionism, anxiety, and religious deconstruction. Many of my clients come to therapy feeling stuck between who they were told to be and who they’re becoming. My role is to walk alongside you as you untangle those old stories and build something more true and whole.

I am an associate therapist who works with adults/ couples seeking relief from addiction, anger, and anxiety concerns.
My modality is Internal Family Systems (IFS), a clear and compassionate approach to understanding your inner world. IFS views the mind as made up of different “parts,” such as parts that worry, feel angry, or rely on substances to cope. These parts are not bad or broken; they are protective responses to life experiences. We gently get the Self to lead.

In today's world there are more problems to face than we can count. At times it can be hard to know how to proceed, what to say, or how to cope. When searching for a counselor to help discover solutions to those problems, finding the right fit for you personally is important. But finding one who will also give you tools you can take home and use is indespensible. Given that the most important factor in the success of therapy is the client-therapist relationship, it matters that you connect in a confidential setting with a therapist with whom you feel comfortable, and one who is skilled enough to pragmatically teach you skills.

Working to improve mental health, creating positive changes, and increasing feelings of peace and happiness in one’s life and relationships can be one of the most difficult things anyone undertakes. I believe that therapy is a collaborative journey from where we are to where we want to be. After having walked with so many people navigating this road of personal growth for over 20 yrs I have become comfortable having those uncomfortable conversations it requires. Deseret Counseling understands the path as well, having been voted best counseling in Utah County the last 10 yrs and counting.

I have seen many clients come in with a huge weight on their shoulders. They need someone to talk to, someone who can validate their experience and someone who can help them see that there is hope. It is such a privilege to sit with clients, hear their stories, strive to understand their pain and show them that relief and healing are possible.

Anger Management Therapists
How long does therapy take for anger management?
Treatment duration depends on the person’s specific challenges and circumstances. There are treatments for anger problems that are shorter and more goal-oriented, like Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), which can last weeks to months. Others, like Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) may last between six months and a year, while a more intensive treatment, like psychodynamic therapy, is open-ended, and clients may see their therapist for a year or longer.

How do you know if you need therapy for anger management?
Everyone gets mad from time to time. But when angry outbursts become frequent and cause damage to relationships, whether at home or in the office, it may be a good time to look into therapy. A therapist can assess where a client’s anger may be coming from, suggest strategies for averting angry outbursts, and help a client create a plan to become a calmer version of themselves.

Is there medication for anger management?
Medications do exist that help people mitigate the feeling of anger, but these are reserved for people with anger-related psychiatric disorders, such as intermittent explosive disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, or in some cases borderline personality disorder. In these cases, antidepressant medications may be prescribed to help with the client’s symptoms. In most cases of anger management, however, talk therapy is the recommended treatment, along with lifestyle changes where relevant.

What’s the best way to encourage someone to seek help for anger issues?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either themselves or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
