Relationships are hard, and anxiety surrounding them is SO normal. Our connections with others - whether with a partner, spouse,
parent
, child(ren), or other loved one - can be a source of some of our greatest difficulties. As a therapist who specializes in working with couples and families, you can expect my approach to be catered to your individual family or relationship needs while having the assurance that my methods are backed by research and practices that help. I firmly believe that these hardships aren't permanent and that with some intentional effort, vulnerability, and better skills, they can be a source of joy.

Specific topics we can address include: fears, sex, assault, spirituality and faith, guilt, PTSD, suicide, LGBTQ concerns, military experiences,
parenting
, school and occupational pressures.
I believe psychotherapy is the art of helping others to find inner peace and reach personal goals. Sadness, anxiety, anger and other non-peaceful feelings often result from trauma or difficult life events. How to deal with these feelings? It's very helpful to talk it over with, and get guidance from, someone who has insight and understanding -- and psychotherapy skills. This is what I consider to be my mission, to guide you toward resolving difficult situations and to improve your personal and relationship satisfaction -- and, to increase self-esteem, inner peace, confidence, and happiness.

I work within
parenting
, couple, and intrapersonal relationships to reconcile and unify.
I strive to be relationship focused in all I do as a counselor, even in my individual work. I believe the research and have observed how loneliness hurts: we thrive when connected and struggle when isolated. I utilize EFT and the Gottman Method with couples; I focus on family work with children because individual play therapy is often unhelpful, in the long-term; Filial Play Therapy and PCIT are my favorites models for parents with their children. I utilize ACT and Arbinger principles in most of my work. I foster connections with my clients but especially between clients and their people, including their spiritual Connection.

parenting
challenges, pornography issues, infidelity, and body image issues.
Life can be challenging. We all face times in our lives when we feel confused, lonely, anxious, insecure, or hopeless. As a therapist, I am honored to sit with you and support you while you learn how to handle things. Together, we will work through painful thoughts, emotions, and experiences to help you feel more empowered, confident, and connected. My style is laid back, and I love to use creative methods as I work with you to reach your specific goals. I enjoy working with individuals, especially adolescents and young adults, as well as couples and entire families.

As an adoptive
parent
of a child with RAD (Reactive Attachment Disorder) and suspected FASD (Fetal Alcohol Syndrome Disorder), for over 14 years, I have had a front-row seat to how trauma penetrates and impacts a person in every aspect of their life as well as those around them. Helping people make sense of their trauma and helping them gain back joy in their life is a passion of mine. I am passionate about helping children through the hard times in life, such as divorce, the loss of a loved one or school feeling really difficult. These stressors add to the overall stress of a family and make even smaller tasks harder.

I call on my training in marriage and family therapy,
parenting
, the treatment of depression, and trauma treatment to help women heal and begin moving forward in a healthier manner.
As a woman, you travel a unique path through this life. Sometimes you experience obstacles and pain along the way. Your relationships are so important to you, but you may not always know the best way to deal with your spouse, your children, your own parents, etc. Sometimes you don't know who to talk to about your struggles. You may face depression, grief, or continue to deal with trauma from your past that still crops up in your current relationships. You long for healing and peace of mind.

Parenting Therapists
What does therapy for parenting look like?
Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.
When should a parent seek therapy?
When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.
How long does therapy take for parenting problems?
Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.
Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?
Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
