I am a narcissist survivor. I returned to college in my mid forties to get my degrees. I understand single motherhood, divorce, trauma and the heartache of feeling alone and unimportant. Sometimes, life is hard and unfair. My decades of personal experience give me deep empathy for my clients. I found my way back to mental health and a healthy marriage through good and directive therapy. I found freedom from depression and trauma, learned to use my voice and my power and blend a family . I understand the basics of good relationships and can help empower you in finding peace by changing your circumstances.

Marriage, couples, and family therapy is my focus, as I am passionate about helping couples with communication problems, premarital counseling, conflict, attachment issues, and emotional disconnection.
Each relationship's story has successes and struggles. I believe some of the most powerful personal healing happens in relationships since many wounds (e.g., mental, emotional, attachment, etc.) are also rooted in relationships. My efforts focus on accessing that healing by exploring underlying beliefs, wounds, and fears that get in the way of you feeling connected with yourself, your partner/spouse, and others in your life.

Balancing independence and connection for individuals and family is one of my main goals in therapy.
Each of us have beliefs and experiences that impact our ability to form meaningful relationships, accomplish goals, or accept ourselves. My hope is to help the individuals, couples and families I work with challenge these negative beliefs and guide them in using skills to develop a stronger sense of self and more stable relationships.

Largely, I utilize Attachment-Based Family Therapy , an empirically validated treatment for depression and suicidality.
***2 Openings Available*** I believe relationships are the most potent development and protective context for development; as such I view relationship as the primary source of strength and healing. I help couples and families to improve communication and trust to buffer against depression, suicide, and many other stressors. Couple and families that want to feel closer to one another and address the behaviors, depression, suicidality keeping them apart should feel hope and support through our work--we will specifically target the causes and consequences of these issues.

I strive to be relationship focused in all I do as a counselor, even in my individual work. I believe the research and have observed how loneliness hurts: we thrive when connected and struggle when isolated. I utilize EFT and the Gottman Method with couples; I focus on family work with children because individual play therapy is often unhelpful, in the long-term; Filial Play Therapy and PCIT are my favorites models for parents with their children. I utilize ACT and Arbinger principles in most of my work. I foster connections with my clients but especially between clients and their people, including their spiritual Connection.

Many of these extreme emotions are interrelated to either current or past family relationships.
I see individuals that desire and are willing to work at creating better relationships and lives. Sometimes we may feel stuck; unable to control our emotions and thought processes. I bring hope and tools to help provide healing and growth. We get a clear picture and understanding of what we want the outcome of therapy to be. We come up with priorities to work on and then experience interventions that create awareness, understanding, skills, hope and motivation to do what works! We then do our homework. We continue in this process, making any adjustments, till we achieve our "healthier life"!

In our work together, I dedicate to creating a secure space for my clients to touch their most vulnerable experiences and authentic emotions. At the same time, I empower and support them to build a new path for themselves, their family , and their future. Although I am not a member of the LDS Church, I genuinely appreciate my clients for their willingness and authenticity to teach me about their experience with the LDS church or other religious/faith backgrounds.

I call on my training in marriage and family therapy , parenting, the treatment of depression, and trauma treatment to help women heal and begin moving forward in a healthier manner.
As a woman, you travel a unique path through this life. Sometimes you experience obstacles and pain along the way. Your relationships are so important to you, but you may not always know the best way to deal with your spouse, your children, your own parents, etc. Sometimes you don't know who to talk to about your struggles. You may face depression, grief, or continue to deal with trauma from your past that still crops up in your current relationships. You long for healing and peace of mind.

Relationships are hard, and anxiety surrounding them is SO normal. Our connections with others - whether with a partner, spouse, parent, child(ren), or other loved one - can be a source of some of our greatest difficulties. As a therapist who specializes in working with couples and families, you can expect my approach to be catered to your individual family or relationship needs while having the assurance that my methods are backed by research and practices that help. I firmly believe that these hardships aren't permanent and that with some intentional effort, vulnerability, and better skills, they can be a source of joy.

Couples often long to feel close but get stuck in their problems. It can seem like there’s no way out of emotional conflicts, sexual difficulties, past mistakes in the relationship, or other issues. I believe in healing that gets to the root – healing that is deep, self-reflective, compassionate, honest, and real. I work with clients and their partners and family members to heal from difficult past experiences, trauma, and current conflicts toward brighter futures, stronger relationships, and a more secure sense of self.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
