I strive to be relationship focused in all I do as a counselor, even in my individual work. I believe the research and have observed how loneliness hurts: we thrive when connected and struggle when isolated. I utilize
EFT
and the Gottman Method with couples; I focus on family work with children because individual play therapy is often unhelpful, in the long-term; Filial Play Therapy and PCIT are my favorites models for parents with their children. I utilize ACT and Arbinger principles in most of my work. I foster connections with my clients but especially between clients and their people, including their spiritual Connection.

I am a Certified
EFT
Therapist.
I specialize in working with married couples and providing premarital education and counseling, Discernment Counseling, and single who are striving to form healthy romantic relationships. I have received specific and extensive training in working with couples. I find that couples struggle because partners within the relationship are too busy trying to protect themselves from emotional turmoil and pain that it is difficult to consider the ways to create safety for their partner. My goal is to help couples create an emotionally safer relationship.

My clients say that I really care about finding a way for you to overcome your concerns. I understand that you have something bothering you, whether it is anxiety, depression, relational issues, or something else, and I will work to give you the tools to feel better. I live for the moment when someone I work with feels they have met their goals and leaves happier. Many of my previous clients have shared what a good experience they had in therapy, and I would love for you to have a great experience as well.

With training in CBT, which helps identify negative/inaccurate thinking patterns and respond more effectively;
EFT
, which helps couples gain secure attachments, rely on each other in times of need, and have vulnerable conversations; and other modalities, I work jointly with each client to identify needs/goals and develop an effective treatment plan.
I believe one of the bravest things a person can do is begin to understand their own story. Have you been struggling with the way you are thinking or feeling? Or maybe you are overwhelmed with everyday responsibilities, struggling with effects of addiction, or are needing help healing a relationship. Is it affecting the way you look at yourself, relationships, work, or life in general? Life can be beautiful, but it can most definitely be challenging. Asking for help can be scary but seeking support may be just what you need to find that sense of happiness you have been missing.

Emotionally Focused Therapists
Who is emotionally focused therapy for?
Emotionally focused therapy (EFT) is for couples who are emotionally distressed, stuck in an unsatisfying relationship pattern or feeling deeply alienated. They may even believe the relationship is beyond repair. Very often, the partners display intense anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal in the relationship. In addition, EFT is helpful to couples and individuals who have difficulty expressing emotions and those who have trouble regulating emotions.
Why do people need emotionally focused therapy?
People need emotionally focused therapy because the need for others is built into the brain, but the pressures of daily life can erode feelings of love, and couples often do not have the skills to find their way back to the comfort of each other. Instead, they may be stuck in repetitive patterns of anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal. Emotionally focused therapy regards such strong negative feelings as expressions of protest over the loss of connection and turns them into pathways of reconnection.
What happens in emotionally focused therapy?
Over the course of eight to 20 weekly sessions, couples de-escalate their negative emotional reactivity to one another so that they can listen to each other and be responsive to each other’s needs. Then the deep emotional and physical bond is restored, giving partners a sense of comfort and security, which they can use to solve whatever problems come their way. The therapist plays an active role, helping partners understand how anger and withdrawal are actually misguided cries for connection.
What problems does emotionally focused therapy treat?
EFT is designed to help couples stuck in dysfunctional relationship patterns regain closeness and rebuild their relationship. Typically, such couples experience considerable distress, with partners feeling alienated and distrustful of one another, not certain their relationship can survive. EFT is also helpful to individuals experiencing attachment-related fears of loss; it helps them learn to use their fears as a way of eliciting the closeness they desire.
