Each of us have beliefs and experiences that impact our ability to form meaningful relationships, accomplish goals, or accept ourselves. My hope is to help the individuals, couples and families I work with challenge these negative beliefs and guide them in using skills to develop a stronger sense of self and more stable relationships.

Marriage, couples , and family therapy is my focus, as I am passionate about helping couples with communication problems, premarital counseling, conflict, attachment issues, and emotional disconnection.
Each relationship 's story has successes and struggles. I believe some of the most powerful personal healing happens in relationships since many wounds (e.g., mental, emotional, attachment, etc.) are also rooted in relationships. My efforts focus on accessing that healing by exploring underlying beliefs, wounds, and fears that get in the way of you feeling connected with yourself, your partner / spouse , and others in your life.

I strive to be relationship focused in all I do as a counselor, even in my individual work. I believe the research and have observed how loneliness hurts: we thrive when connected and struggle when isolated. I utilize EFT and the Gottman Method with couples ; I focus on family work with children because individual play therapy is often unhelpful, in the long-term; Filial Play Therapy and PCIT are my favorites models for parents with their children. I utilize ACT and Arbinger principles in most of my work. I foster connections with my clients but especially between clients and their people, including their spiritual Connection.

Life is difficult. All of us are faced with stress, pain, loss, and feeling out of control in our lives. Sometimes, even the strongest people you know need a little bit of help to work through life’s more difficult problems. You may be experiencing some of your own life’s challenges and feel you have done all you can to cope, yet find things are not changing or improving. You may not know exactly where to go for help, who the best person would be to talk to, or what to expect from therapy. These are normal questions and concerns. All of us here at New Beginnings Counseling Group want to reassure you…You are in the right place!

I offer individuals and couples to residents in Utah (in-person and online) and play therapy in-person.
You made a mistake this morning. It was small, but you can’t get it out of your head. You keep thinking about it. You feel like your thoughts are a runaway train and you can’t stop them. You try to consider what you could have done differently, and yet it’s in the past. You start to question other choices you’ve made. Are you making the right call? Doubt creeps in. You find it hard to concentrate on your family or partner , your job, or schoolwork. Your mind hurts, your stomach hurts, body hurts. You feel exhausted; it's only been an hour.

I seek to help clients who are interested in psychological testing and psychotherapy. I strive to use therapeutic assessment procedures that not only help us arrive at a diagnostic conclusion, but also at place where there is a possibility for a new relationship with the difficult condition itself. In providing psychotherapy, I try to emphasize that life's challenges, even the most painful or uncertain, contain the seedlings of new possibilities. As we approach them together, we can open a door to renewed purpose in pursuit of what matters most to you. Don't quit! We can never exhaust our ability to experience something new!

Our mission is to help dating, engaged, and newly married couples explore, evaluate, strengthen, and prepare their relationship for the most important commitment they will make. The research is clear. Couples who participate in some form of structured premarital education and/or counseling are more likely to have a stable and satisfying marriage compared to those who do not. The Center of Marriage Preparation has the most comprehensive, personalize premarital preparation program in Utah to assist couples in everything they need to know before they say, “I do.” We also work with married couples as well.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
