Are you struggling with a critical voice that says you are “too much” or “not enough” for those around you? Are you tired of people pleasing or defensiveness taking the lead in your relationships? As a recovering perfectionist with late-diagnosed ADHD, I am familiar with the work of building self-compassion and a growth mindset. You aren’t alone if you feel like you’ve lost yourself to traumatic events, social expectations, and the stressors of everyday life. It is my hope that my therapy office can be a space where you show up as you are and take a break from questioning your worth.

My practice is focused on neuropsychological assessment. Problems arising from poorly functioning areas of the brain, such as attention, memory, visuospatial processing, language, socio-emotional development, intellectual impairments, and executive functioning, are assessed via a variety of standardized tests. These problems can exist from birth or are acquired by stroke, infection, or trauma, and can exist in a wide variety of people and psychological problems. Often behavioral issues can be traced back to the effect of problems in these areas. I assess and help people of all ages understand implications and routes to improvement.

We often don’t have the understanding why we feel so separate from ourselves, the struggle to understand what’s happening within & around us, feeling lost trying to navigate the complexity of life. We need a space to explore this. Golden Horse Counseling’s purpose is to create a space for healing, a place where we can learn to fully connect to ourselves. Our intent is never to fix our clients' problems but rather to provide a space where they can explore and create lasting change. We recognize the profound impact this healing process has, and create space for clients to rewrite their stories, gather the reins, & gallop forward.

Our relationships matter more than anything else in life. For you, this may (or may not) include a spouse or partner, children, friends, or those in your community. These kinds of meaningful connections are imperative to our happiness and well-being. The key? Thriving relationships require a healthy relationship with yourself. With compassion, kindness, and a hint of humor, I can guide you in building a better understanding of the unique person you are, help you identify what you want and need, teach you skills and strategies for success, and support you in personal transformation.

For my clients, their mantra is “I just want everyone to be happy.” They wanted and worked hard for a happy family. It's not that things are dysfunctional, but their kids are interested in hanging out with friends. They know this is normal but it still hurts. Their partner seems relatively unphased by the shift as the kids leave. Their partner continues their usual routines of work, hobbies, and friends. They feel alone. They realize without their very active role of mother, they made it to middle age and they don't know who they are, what they find fun in, and what they're interested in.

One of my goals with therapy is to help others find meaning in their lives. It can be difficult when one feels as if they are not healthy emotionally or mentally. I work to have a good natured approach and strong connection that can help me assist clients in finding positive aspects in themselves and in building resiliency and strength. I have worked with a wide-ranging populace of clients and have expertise in working with trauma. I believe that the key to good therapy is the relationship, and I am a person-centered therapist, yet I work with any different modalities, depending on each individuals needs.
