Having lived through relational, religious, military, and familial trauma, I understand how deeply disconnection and unmet emotional needs can shape our lives.

Life can be challenging, and sometimes we need a little extra support to navigate through difficult times. I am passionate about helping people navigate through difficult times in their lives and finding ways to overcome obstacles. I believe that everyone deserves to feel heard, understood, and supported. A significant portion of my career has been helping clients with behavior modification and treating symptoms of substance use, depression, anxiety, ADHD, and trauma responses. I also have experience with clients with autism and those who have experienced domestic violence.

, LGBTQIA, Veterans, Autism (Neurodiversity lens) and the intersection of these identities with trauma and different diagnoses or life events.
All are welcome! I work the most with individuals and couples that are navigating multiple intersecting identities and mental health concerns. As a trans veteran, I find it easy to connect with members of the LGBTQ and veteran communities. I can help members navigate life and the nuances that come with those identities by drawing on experience, training, and education. Clients often find that not having to explain things that feel basic really makes therapy accessible. This baseline can help the navigation of trauma and PTSD to feel less dark and lonely.

In my mind, the ideal client is someone who has recognized that some aspect of their life is no longer working and is ready to take steps to restore balance. This person is seeking help to get their life back on track. I enjoy working with a variety of clients, including individuals, couples, and families. The people who seek counseling to validate that change is necessary, and who desire professional guidance to collaborate in identifying their natural strengths (or at least their potential capabilities) to overcome difficulties, tend to be goal-oriented. These clients are especially exciting to work with and a safe space to be in.

When life feels heavy, because of your choices, someone else’s, or circumstances you never asked for, you don’t have to handle it alone. Therapy can be a place to sort through what’s weighing on you, gain perspective, and feel more grounded. Whether you’re feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or simply want to feel better, support can make a meaningful difference. You deserve a space where you’re heard, understood, and helped forward.

Therapy isn’t one size fits all, and neither are therapists. It's tough to tell through a directory listing if we're going to be a good fit - I get it. Here's who I typically work with: couples, helping professionals + first responders, and anxious humans who are trying to navigate the impact of things like trauma, ADHD, their own past, perfectionism, burnout, stress and the toll their job takes. It's impacting their day to day lives + relationships. They don't necessarily want to talk about it - but they need to and what they've been doing leading up to this point isn't working anymore. They aren't thriving - but they want to be.

It is hard when life is not going how you had hoped or imagined. Maybe there have been past negative experiences that are still impacting your mood or relationships—leaving you feeling on edge, worried, or overwhelmed. Perhaps you’ve felt stuck in old patterns, feeling isolated and unsure how to start or continue on your healing journey. All of this can feel even heavier when loneliness or isolation is piled on top. I’m glad you’re here, and I’m proud of you for taking this step.

As a board-certified psychologist and retired military officer with over 25 years of experience, I am trained in a variety of evidence-based treatments, including those proven effective for obsessive-compulsive and related disorders (CBT & ERP), as well as trauma and stress-related conditions (such as EMDR & ART).
I help people struggling with anxiety, depression, self-esteem, and relationship issues—whether from obsessive thoughts, trauma, loss, or other high-stress experiences. It's not just what we've lived through, but how it continues to affect us. My goal is to help you keep the insight and let go of the suffering. Everyone who enters my office is treated with respect, compassion, and receives the same care I’d want for my own family members.

Life often causes deep, troubled feelings (depression, anxiety, loneliness, worthlessness) or conflicts, resentments, or emotional distance with our loved ones. We feel hurt, put down, traumatized, and wounded by those around us and don’t know how to heal or become emotionally free. Kids and teens often feel like they don’t measure up or their feelings matter, causing deep emotional problems. Couples and families can’t communicate and connect in meaningful and healthy ways causing tension and heartache in home life. I help all of these through highly skilled emotional-based techniques for children, youth, adults and families.

Much of that time has been spent working with Active-Duty Military personnel.
One of the most important things about therapy is the relationship between the therapist and the client. You need to feel comfortable with your provider in order to feel like you can be open and vulnerable. I believe the most successful therapy is about moving toward the kind of person you want to be.

Have you ever felt so low that the thought of even getting up was exhausting? Felt like you had no control over your day? Or felt so much yet were unable to know why or how to appropriately have those emotions? Yet, here you are taking the first step. I can’t even imagine how big of a step that may be for you, but I’m proud of you for that. My role exists so that I can help people accept their reality and guide them towards what actually matters within their own lives by using compassion and acceptance.

Mental illness itself occurs from the interaction of multiple genes in the body and other environmental factors such as stress, abuse, neglect, or an event, which can influence, or trigger an illness in a person. Therapy can help treat mental illness and help one overcome emotional and behavioral problems that tend to disrupt normal functioning.

Veterans Therapists
Why is mental health important for veterans and the military?
Veterans are more likely to face mental health challenges than the general public, and such mental health challenges can make it difficult for them to navigate day-to-day life. Improved mental health can result in better interpersonal relationships, lower levels of stress, and decreased dependence on substances, such as drugs or alcohol, for many veterans. Addressing common mental health conditions can also help facilitate recovery from physical health challenges that are faced by many veterans, such as chronic pain, physical injury, or poor sleeping patterns. Therapists trained in working with veterans can help address these concerns and help improve veteran mental health.

How can veterans get access to mental health support?
There are many resources for veterans to get mental health support, including through the VA or through their primary care doctor. Many service personnel are eligible for free or reduced-cost mental health counseling through the VA, depending on their service history and current income. Veterans can also utilize online directories, such as Psychology Today, or nonprofit organization resources like the Wounded Warrior Project, to find a therapist or other healthcare professional that specializes in their specific mental health needs. Veterans may also benefit from community-based groups that facilitate social connection and/or address specific concerns, such as Alcoholics Anonymous.

What type of therapy is best for veterans?
Veterans may benefit from multiple types of therapy, depending on what mental health challenges they are facing. Veterans seeking therapy for anxiety or depression may benefit from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) or Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), which encourage clients to understand how their thought patterns influence their behavior. Veterans with PTSD may seek other more specialized forms of therapy to treat trauma symptoms, such as EMDR or exposure therapy. Many veterans and military personnel may also benefit from family or couples counseling to address the stress and adjustment challenges that can be associated with military life.

Can therapy for veterans help with trauma and PTSD?
Therapy can be highly effective in helping veterans with trauma and PTSD. Therapists specializing in veteran mental health often have extensive training and experience helping veterans navigate symptoms of trauma and can teach clients coping techniques to handle common symptoms associated with trauma and PTSD. Some therapists may use talk therapy as their primary approach, while others utilize more structured therapy modalities in sessions, such as EMDR. Veterans can try multiple therapy modalities to find the best fit for them. Therapists can also help make referrals or connect clients with available resources, such as VA benefits, to help address other life concerns.
