Do you feel weighed down by the heavy expectations of perfectionism? Does anxiety keep you from engaging in the things you want? I believe that everyone deserves and has the power to create a joyful and meaningful life! My ultimate goal as I work with you is to help you reflect on the past, embrace the present, and find hope, joy, and excitement for the future. I have spent years researching and writing about perfectionism. This topic has become a passion of mine and is something I focus on in my work with individuals.

In that context, I enjoy working with infidelity, unhealed childhood trauma, OCD/OCPD, and communication challenges.
I hope to introduce myself to you here in a way that seems genuine rather than polished. I enjoy helping people navigate the complexities of relationships as well as the loss of relationships. I’m drawn to sitting with people in these very human, often uncomfortable moments. As a therapist, my goal is to offer you a non-judgmental space to process, feel seen, and create change. In my process as a therapist, change means both compassion and accountability. I value presenting therapy in an approachable, human-focused way. If you’re looking for a therapist who seems human rather than clinical, I may be a good fit.

You may be familiar with the feeling of hearing your baby crying and wanting to hide. Or perhaps you have come looking for a therapist after your latest conversation with your partner left you feeling more alone and frustrated than before. Or anxiety has you awake at 4 am, staring at the ceiling and planning for a tragedy that feels so likely, despite evidence to the contrary. It is possible for life to feel different than it does now. My intent is for clients to leave my office feeling understood and hopeful. My goal is to empower you in the therapy room, so you can leave therapy and practice doing something different.

I know how hard it is to overthink everything. Your panic and anxiety prevent you from living life. Your anxiety is paralyzing. I know your sense of doom, of fear, of uncertainty. The worry seeps into all the parts of your life. Having struggled with anxiety myself, I know how much it can control everything. Even trying to write this profile I am overthinking and overanalyzing. I also understand depression. I know it can be a struggle to even get out of bed. Brushing your teeth feels about as likely as running a marathon.

Brad has worked with teens and their families in a residential setting, specializing in treating trauma and helping them regain feelings of love and peace.
Working to improve mental health, creating positive changes, and increasing feelings of peace and happiness in one’s life and relationships can be one of the most difficult things anyone undertakes. I believe that therapy is a collaborative journey from where we are to where we want to be. After having walked with so many people navigating this road of personal growth for over 20 yrs I have become comfortable having those uncomfortable conversations it requires. Deseret Counseling understands the path as well, having been voted best counseling in Utah County the last 10 yrs and counting.

I specialize in short-term trauma-focused therapy using Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART), while integrating elements of Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Internal Family Systems (IFS).
I work with adults who feel emotionally stuck despite being highly self-aware and insightful. Many of my clients struggle with anxiety, emotional overwhelm, shame, grief, or distressing experiences that continue to affect daily life and relationships. They are often looking for more than a space to talk — they want a focused approach that helps them process experiences, create meaningful change, and move forward.

Do you have that voice in the back of your mind that constantly tells you how awful you are, the one that is relentless and won’t go away? Sometimes in life we feel overwhelmed, disconnected, and unable to take care of our needs. We take this out on food, our bodies, and those we love. It can be difficult to face things, even if we want to. Despite our best efforts we find ourselves feeling defeated and worry we are failing. This might be because you have difficult things in your life that are keeping you from being able to make the changes you desire. Seeking counseling is a brave step in reconnecting with yourself and your life.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists
When should I seek treatment for trauma?
Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?
Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?
Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?
It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
