A good therapist-client fit is essential to getting the help you need. I have a great deal of life experience and cultural awareness from growing up in a risky area of Los Angeles, serving in the U.S. Army (9 yrs), experiencing combat and loss, living through natural disasters, working with and supporting military veterans, working as a therapist with juveniles for the State of Utah, and overcoming many of life's personal obstacles. I have a passion for working with people. I believe connecting with you is essential to treatment success. As your therapist, I promise to be there for you every step of the way.

What is the sense of belonging that many people claim to have, and others have no idea how to acquire? Have ever felt the need to be part of some group or be someone else? I first developed an interest in becoming a therapist when I worked in a drug abuse residential as an aid assistant. As part of my responsibility, I engaged the residents in conversation in the hope of encouraging them to become more involved in their treatment and develop a sense of self. With this experience, I realized that I was able to be empathetic and felt good about minimal accomplishments experienced by residents.

My clients say that I really care about finding a way for you to overcome your concerns. I understand that you have something bothering you, whether it is anxiety, depression, relational issues, or something else, and I will work to give you the tools to feel better. I live for the moment when someone I work with feels they have met their goals and leaves happier. Many of my previous clients have shared what a good experience they had in therapy, and I would love for you to have a great experience as well.

Authentic connection offers freedom to express our inner worlds, heal open wounds, and make meaning of life experiences. At times, our own personal exhaustion, loneliness, hurt, worry, and fear can contribute to relational distress, inability to cope, and difficulty recognizing our inner strengths. In treatment, I provide opportunities to heal from your wounds and create a space to build, restore, and foster connections with yourself and others. I conceptualize treatment in a holistic way that focuses on treating intergenerational patterns, mind-body connection, cultural and systemic influences, and identity exploration.

Hello, I'm Marshall! I've been a counselor for about ten years now, and no matter what your mental condition or issues might be, you won't find judgment from me. But you will find expertise with a friendly human who takes good care of his own mental health and is also highly capable and ready to help. We'll first figure out what your hopes and goals are and then will carve out the easiest, most effortless path to getting there. This can be painful but works best as we prioritize uncovering your core self and identity. I help you to subtract what you are NOT so that you can easily see the powerful being you were all along.

I specialize in working with trauma in clients of all ages. Before practicing privately, I worked with women who were childhood sexual abuse survivors in a retreat and outpatient setting for two years. I also worked with both adults and children through Family Haven, Utah Foster Care, and Wasatch Mental Health. Over my years working in mental health I developed a love for working with all ages to heal from trauma. I like taking a client-centered in therapy to help clients feel more empowered and whole. I also enjoy helping clients through symptoms of trauma, anxiety, depression and issues related to faith transitions.

I want to create a safe space where you feel comfortable sharing your experiences and working together to make and reach meaningful goals to improve your well-being. I love it when sessions provide opportunities for both of us to grow together, so even though I am here to provide support and resources, I am always open to learning from you as well.

I approach therapy primarily from a relational-cultural perspective, which acknowledges healthy relationships as key to emotional and psychological functioning. My clients often seek therapy for help with loneliness/emotional disconnection from others, relationship/dating anxiety, or relational distress because of personal identity changes. I strive to help my clients gain insight into the dynamics in their life that contribute to feelings of fear and sadness. I also help clients move away from avoidant ways of dealing with stress in their lives and toward strategies that increase self-esteem and provide their lives with meaning.

Navigating a faith crisis or faith transition can be incredibly overwhelming and scary. You’ve been looking for a therapist who specializes in deconstruction, religious trauma, purity culture, shunning and the challenges of mixed-faith relationships, but still haven’t found the right fit. Maybe you’ve been considering therapy for a while but feel too paralyzed with confusion, fear, guilt or shame to reach out.
