We all go through challenging seasons in life, and reaching out for support is a courageous step. I specialize in working with children ages 2 to 10 (and their parents) and adults. In child therapy, I provide a nurturing space where children can express themselves through play, learn to navigate big emotions, and develop healthier ways of responding to challenges. I work collaboratively with parents, offering practical guidance and tools to support your child’s growth. I also work with adults who want to reduce anxiety, work through trauma, better manage stress, and reconnect with a sense of hope.

I treat PTSD, trauma, pornography/sex addiction, anxiety, OCD, depression, anger, sleep disorders, and family conflict.
I’m a Clinical Mental Health Counselor in Utah County and retired U.S. Army officer who’s walked through trauma, healing, and rebuilding. Married 25+ years with five daughters, I understand the realities of marriage, parenting, faith, and family stress. I use an integrated, neuroscience-based approach and practical tools to help clients heal trauma, rebuild connection, and find peace. My journey taught me that even in deep suffering, hope is real, and I would be honored to help you find it.

Therapy works best when you feel safe enough to be open and honest — even about the things you may never have said out loud. My top priority is creating that space for you. I work with individual adults navigating trauma of all kinds, and I'm especially skilled at working through resistance — not forcing our way through it, but helping you understand why it's there and why you may or may not need it anymore.

In my mind, the ideal client is someone who has recognized that some aspect of their life is no longer working and is ready to take steps to restore balance. This person is seeking help to get their life back on track. I enjoy working with a variety of clients, including individuals, couples, and families. The people who seek counseling to validate that change is necessary, and who desire professional guidance to collaborate in identifying their natural strengths (or at least their potential capabilities) to overcome difficulties, tend to be goal-oriented. My hope is that my warm and inviting office atmosphere, and a safe space.

I believe we all have within us what it takes to grow, heal, and work towards our goals, and I am honored to be a part of this journey with my clients. If you’re not sure what to expect from counseling, that’s okay! Working with me starts with getting to know your story, what you’re struggling with, and what your goals are. You can ask me questions about my training, experience, and philosophy to help you determine if I could be a good fit for you.

Eating disorders thrive in silence, but healing happens in connection. If your relationship with food feels exhausting, you don’t have to navigate it alone. I help individuals break free from patterns of shame, anxiety, and self-criticism so they can reclaim confidence, peace, and a nourishing connection with their bodies.

I love working with children ages 8+, teens and their parents to achieve an outcome that is personal to each individual. Most of my clients are individuals dealing with past or present trauma, chronic pain, ADHD, or family changes like death or divorce. One of my strengths is creating a supportive environment for parents and children as they work through challenges together. I strive to build and maintain a therapeutic relationship that is genuine and authentic. By building this relationship and understanding you, I am able to better empathize, and teach healthy tools I myself have used to overcome loss and grief in my own life.

Sleep or Insomnia Therapists
How effective is treatment for insomnia?
The most effective treatments for insomnia are behavioral techniques that reduce anxiety, including anxiety about falling asleep, and allow the body’s natural cycles to be recalibrated. The most common treatment is cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), which researchers have found to be more useful than medication, with rates of success as high as 80 percent.

Are there specific medications for sleep problems?
There are many medications, both over-the-counter and prescription that treat sleep problems. Supplements such as melatonin are popular and may help, though there is little evidence that it is more effective than a placebo. Prescription medications such as zolpidem are sometimes prescribed.

Are there natural treatments for sleep problems?
There are many natural treatments for everyday sleep problems. Reducing blue-light emitting screens, setting a regular bedtime, regular exercise, reducing caffeine and nicotine consumption, and keeping the bedroom dark and cool at night are all lifestyle changes that can help those who struggle with sleep but may not reach the level of an insomnia diagnosis.

What’s the difference between having trouble falling asleep and insomnia?
Life events, stress, and anxiety can lead to sleepless nights for everyone from time to time. To be diagnosed with insomnia, a patient must experience trouble falling asleep, trouble remaining asleep, waking up too early, or non-restorative sleep at least three nights per week for at least one month. Sleep problems affect one-third to one-half of the population, while chronic insomnia affects about 10 to 15 percent of people.
