Parent-Child Interaction (PCIT) Therapists in Orem, UT
We all go through challenging seasons in life and reaching out for support is a courageous step. I specialize in working with children (ages 2 to 9), parents and adults. In child therapy, I provide a nurturing space where children can express themselves through play, learn to navigate big emotions, and develop healthier ways of responding to challenges. I work collaboratively with parents, offering practical guidance and tools to support your child’s growth. I also seek to create a comfortable place for adults who want to reduce anxiety, work through trauma, manage stress, and experience hope and healing.

My 10 years as a therapist have exposed me to a variety of challenges from deescalating unsafe situations to mediating complex relationship barriers. In my experience trauma can often be found at the core of depression, anxiety, family/spouse conflict, disordered eating, sexual confusion and addiction. All of these challenges can create a sense of feeling stuck, unfulfilled and alone. In some cases, these struggles can be intimidating to address without help. My belief is that therapy acts as a safe place for you to address those struggles in an empowering way; one that gives a sense of purpose, and leaves you feeling connected.

You're not broken—you just need better tools. My two ideal types of clients are 1) working with couples, or 2) working with clients navigating the chaos of ADHD - or even both! Your relationship may either be on the brink, or ready to build something stronger. You may be motivated but stuck, often frustrated by not knowing why you feel the way you do—or how to move forward. Whether it's communication gridlock or procrastination paralysis, my ideal clients are ready to learn, apply, and grow! (I have a waitlist for clients seeing me directly, but DO have immediate slots open with therapists I directly supervise/train!)

As a Marriage & Family Therapist I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, which helps change negative thought patterns and behaviors. Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing, helps reduce distress from trauma or other distressing life experiences. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, which teaches distress tolerance, effective relationship skills, emotion regulation, mindfulness and coping skills for life's challenges. I utilize Gottman and EFT with couples in a conflict or repair process. Play therapy uses play techniques vs talk-therapy to help children work through emotional and mental health issues.

Sleepless nights, constant reassurance-seeking, stomachaches before school, and "what if" questions that never seem to end—it is exhausting to watch your child struggle with anxiety. As a parent, you find yourself trying to navigate their fears but there is no magic switch to turn off their worry. Meanwhile, your child is missing out. One day they seem brave; the next, a small change in routine leads to a total shutdown. It’s painful to see your bright, curious child become paralyzed by a world that feels unsafe. You want them to feel confident and free, but right now, it feels like anxiety is the one calling the shots.

I utilize EFT and the Gottman Method with couples; I focus on family work with children because individual play therapy is often unhelpful, in the long-term; Filial Play Therapy and PCIT are my favorites models for parents with their children.
I believe in people’s own wisdom and listen with the intent to help people follow their own values. I believe in empowerment and practice therapy in such a way as to help my clients lead therapy with guidance and input from me but where they are the decision-makers. I work within parenting, couple, and intrapersonal relationships to reconcile and unify.

Therapy often starts with a simple desire for change, even if that desire feels small. The fact that you’re here already says something about that part of you. As someone who understands what it’s like to want things to be different, I feel honored to walk alongside you and help that desire grow. I can’t promise the process will be easy, but I do believe it can be worth it, helping you heal, move forward, and feel more in control of your life. My goal isn’t just change for now, but growth that lasts beyond therapy and strengthens your relationships over time.

Therapy can be scary because it might make you feel very vulnerable to let someone new see you suffer. It is so common to feel like we should be able to handle things on our own, that we're supposed to be helping others and not the other way around, but I have learned how much connection with others who do not judge us harshly or think less of us when we feel stuck can open doors we didn't see or brings us back to feeling valued, capable, and safe.

Parent-Child Interaction (PCIT) Therapists
Does parent-child interaction therapy (PCIT) work?
PCIT is an evidence-based treatment that has been shown to be effective across domains, including for children with behavioral problems, those on the autism spectrum, and those who have experienced early childhood trauma. Further, studies have found that the skills developed through PCIT benefit not only the child in therapy but also siblings, as the parent internalizes lessons learned in sessions and is able to incorporate them into interactions with other family members.
How long does PCIT last?
The duration of treatment depends on the specific challenges clients face. Sessions are typically 60 to 90 minutes long, and treatment lasts, on average, between 12 and 20 sessions. Factors that influence treatment duration include how regularly a client attends treatment, how much progress is achieved between sessions, the particular skills that need development, and the extent to which the parent and therapist see improvement.
Can PCIT be done online?
PCIT is among the therapy types best suited for video sessions. Therapists are able to communicate with parents with essentially the same ease, and by observing the parent and child at home in their normal environment, the therapist may gain additional insight into their interactions, as the child will have their normal toys and may feel more comfortable and act more naturally than they would in a therapist’s room.
Does PCIT help parents?
In addition to the skills parents develop through the treatment, PCIT has also been shown to reduce frustration, stress, and depression in parents and promote confidence and a sense of calm when dealing with their children. The desired outcomes of PCIT include a reduction in defiant and aggressive behavior by children and an improvement in communicating their feelings productively, complying with parental instruction, and behaving according to parents’ rules. Growth in these areas can be a relief for parents.
