Many of us long for deeper connections, for more authentic living, or to break old patterns that no longer serve. We try and try, but something continues to get in the way. It could be unhelpful thoughts, intense emotions, anxiety, depression, unresolved trauma, lack of skills, etc. My goal is to start where my clients are at and to listen deeply in order to accurately assess how we can best work together. I offer a compassionate, objective perspective to help you see more than the things that have you stuck.

I've been a therapist for 11 years, but it didn't take me that long to learn that therapy is about what works for you. My priority is to make specific goals that address your concerns and often check to make sure you still feel like we're on the right track. I'm here to help you make the transition to living a fuller life, find healing, and meet your goals. Whether you have a history of trauma, depression, anxiety, an eating disorder, or just some skills to make life easier, I can help. I love having the opportunity to help you discover your best self and work through the experiences are challenging for you, past or present.

I am a professional that most find extremely easy to talk to. I have honed the skill of therapeutic maneuverability which means my clients get what they need in therapy, whether it is someone to listen to them and help process thoughts or to give them tools and help develop skills to be the best possible version of themselves. I am very validating and edifying at times, but I don't sugarcoat what needs to be said. I see the capacity of people without judgement, what is important to me is where you are and where you want to be going. I have skills in working with individuals, couples, and families from all sorts of backgrounds.

I like to come at therapy kind of like I would a drummer at a jam session. I'm there to find a groove with another voice. I want to communicate with you and help you to open up and learn to express yourself. We will seek understanding first and then we will find a way to encourage healing and growth that is unique to you and builds a stronger identity. I am strengths-based and I like to find existing skills to help a client build a new way of thinking and interacting with their body. This is also a very effective way of beginning the process of healing symptoms of PTSD in conjunction with other evidence based trauma treatments.

If you’re reading this, you’re probably experiencing a period of sadness, trial, loss, hopelessness, frustration, anger, relational struggles, feeling lost, or failure just to name a few. During these moments of turmoil, when we feel most vulnerable and isolated, asking for help may seem intimidating, but it doesn’t have to be. I am particularly passionate about helping people who are or have encountered trauma, grief and loss, depression, anxiety, faith transformations, and the intersection of sexual orientation and religious experiences.

Healing from trauma isn't easy. I won’t sugarcoat how painful this work can be—but you don’t have to do it alone. I’ve spent the last six years helping survivors of sexual assault, domestic violence, and intimate partner abuse reclaim their lives. These experiences can deeply impact how we see ourselves, relate to others, and move through the world. I believe in creating a safe, collaborative space where we can reconnect your mind, body, and spirit. My approach is grounded in honesty, compassion, and respect for your story and what you want to do. Together, we’ll walk the path of healing and build a life you feel empowered in.

Music Therapy

How does music therapy work?

A music therapist will begin by assessing the client’s specific needs and getting a sense of their musical ability and interests. Musical training is not required, and clients of all ages can benefit from this type of therapy. The therapist will then make a plan for how to achieve the client’s therapeutic goal(s) using a range of receptive (e.g., listening to a song) and active (e.g., drumming in a group) music therapy techniques.

What are some common music therapy techniques?

Music therapy usually involves listening to music (either live or recorded). Music therapy clients may also make music on popular instruments, such as the piano, guitar, and hand drum, or sing. Sometimes music therapy can include guided imagery. A music therapist may ask clients to improvise on the spot or even compose their own songs. Dancing or moving to music can be an effective intervention to help clients feel more fully grounded in their bodies and remain in the present moment.

How does music therapy help with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)?

Music therapy can be a valuable creative outlet for clients with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) who have trouble putting their painful feelings into words. Listening to music can be relaxing while making music as part of a group provides plenty of opportunities to connect with other people. In addition to its mood-boosting effects, music therapy can help clients build resilience and overcome PTSD symptoms that may interfere with their daily lives.

How long does music therapy take?

Music therapy sessions generally last between 30 and 50 minutes. They can be scheduled in advance (for example, once a week) or can be done on an as-needed basis. Some clients will only require a handful of music therapy sessions to achieve their goals, while others may need months or longer, depending on their specific concern.
