I use Neurofeedback to treat diverse emotional, psychological, and cognitive problems such as ADHD, autism, anxiety, depression, brain injury, learning disorders, PTSD, sleep disorders, and addiction.
The human mind can get stuck in negative emotions, beliefs, and other patterns which make it feel impossible to move forward in life. I specialize in interventions (particularly EMDR, ACT, and BWRT) that enable the mind to let release old patterns quickly and often permanently. I specialize in treating trauma and anxiety. But these same interventions work wonders with addictions, depression, and other serious problems.

I work with people struggling with ADHD, processing difficulties, other learning disabilities, and correlated issues of self-esteem.
Let’s face it. Our children are facing an ever-growing, chaotic world and are often ill equipped to deal with the challenges they are facing. As a parent are you feeling lost and unsure as to how to help? Does your teenager or young adult cringe when you as a parent mention seeing a therapist? Young people could care less about theory, modality, and technique. They need connection, empathy and trust in a “professional” if progress is to be made. Resistance to help? Great. This is my jam, it’s my passion.

The primary methods I tap into are Acceptance Commitment Therapy (especially learning to sit with uncomfortable feelings) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (especially identifying and changing unhelpful thinking patterns), with an underlying focus on Person-Centered Therapy (believing that clients can change and often have the answers, they just need an outside set of eyeballs to find them
I enjoy helping clients who feel stuck with some aspect of their lives get unstuck and experience more joy and peace. I like getting to the heart of issues as efficiently as possible so we can begin working on finding answers and solutions. I love it when I see the lightbulb come on for clients who have felt in the dark for years. This process begins by discussing the challenges a client is facing and noticing areas of strong emotion. From there, we explore those strong emotions and note what core issues might be driving these feelings. It's a powerful process of discovery that helps bring complex issues into focus.

I love helping adults, children, teens, and their parents successfully navigate life’s challenges. My primary focus is on creating a safe space for people to process their struggles and discover and build on their strengths. I believe that people have what they need to thrive inside of them and my purpose is to help them access that through talk and play. I am familiar with and trained in using Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).

I understand how beginning therapy for the first time or re-entering therapy can be a stressful experience. Finding a qualified therapist is important, but you also want to find a therapist you connect with personally and who you can trust with your thoughts and feelings. My education gives me the qualifications, but my life experience provides the connection and empathy needed to guide or support you as we explore together the challenges that brought you to therapy and how to overcome them.

Having challenges can be difficult, seeking therapy shouldn't be. Therapy is about personal growth, trials you may be going through, and giving you the tools you need to help you get through those trials. I can guide you through the process of discovering your inner strengths, and together we can expand your options so that you can make the best possible decisions. We are not here to just talk but to help you learn how to cope during that moment and all the other moments for the rest of your life. I am not a fairy godmother that can bibbidi-bobbidi-boo your child into behaving perfectly, make your teen talk to you, or make your family understand and appreciate you. However, I can be an empathetic listener and support to help provide context and understanding for thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that may feel or seem hard to process. I provide tools, resources, and a therapeutic environment where change for the better is possible.

How effective is treatment for learning disabilities?

When initiated early and tailored to a child’s specific needs, learning disability treatment can be quite effective at helping a child cope with their disability, though its exact efficacy may depend on the severity of symptoms and whether comorbid disorders exist. Less is known about treatment initiated in adulthood, but it is certainly possible that an adult with a learning disability will see some improvement—or at the very least, identify workarounds and accommodations that could make symptoms less burdensome in day-to-day life.

When should someone seek treatment for learning disabilities?

It’s best to seek treatment as early as possible. Because learning disabilities often go unnoticed until a child starts school, or even until they’re a few years along, regular check-ins with teachers and doctors can help parents determine whether children are meeting milestones and keeping up with peers or whether an evaluation for learning disabilities may be warranted. And although earlier is always better, it’s never too late to be evaluated for learning disabilities and to seek treatment.

What happens if learning disabilities are left untreated?

Undiagnosed and untreated learning disabilities can be a source of significant frustration and shame for a child, who may feel that their challenges stem from a lack of intelligence or willpower. Such feelings can trigger low self-esteem, depression, or anxiety, which may push a child toward risky behaviors, including substance use. In adulthood, untreated learning disabilities can interfere with career success, and lingering feelings of self-doubt and shame can negatively affect someone’s mental health.

Are there medications for learning disabilities?

Currently, there are no medications designed to treat specific learning disabilities such as dysgraphia or dyscalculia. However, someone with a learning disability may be prescribed medication for a comorbid condition, such as anxiety, depression, or ADHD, which may have positive downstream effects on their learning disability; for example, a child with both ADHD and dyslexia may find that they’re better able to focus on their reading exercises after being prescribed a stimulant medication.
