Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapists in Morgan, UT

Stillbrook Counseling
Clinical Social Work/Therapist, LCSW
Morgan, UT 84050
I draw from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Internal Family Systems ( IFS), Narrative Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing.
Life isn't always smooth and simple. You might look fine on the outside while feeling anxious, exhausted, or stuck inside. Maybe you're a young adult sorting out your next steps, a parent stretched thin, or facing the pain of fertility struggles or grief. Whatever you're carrying, you don't have to face it alone. I'm not the kind of therapist who just nods and asks, "How does that make you feel?" I show up with compassion, honesty, and sometimes a little humor. Therapy with me feels like a conversation, supportive, practical, and focused on what matters to you.

I have found that using a mix of EMDR, IFS, and somatic work can be extremely effective when working with trauma and addiction.
Are you asking yourself, "how did I get here?" You may be feeling hopeless with how out of control your sexual behavior has become. Or your life has been thrown into chaos by betrayal from the one person that you trusted with your whole being. You are probably questioning if there is any chance your relationship is going survive. I am here to tell you that recovery and healing are possible. Whether you are the one fighting to overcome compulsive sexual behavior, or the partner who has experienced too many heartbreaking discoveries to count, there is HOPE. I know it is hard to feel that right now but I will help you get there.

There's a moment when we have to choose what comes next for our lives- sometimes that moment comes because of a crisis, a shift in your life, or an internal change. If you're looking for a therapist, you're probably in that moment, which is great news- it means you are already heading down a path of empowerment, authenticity, and connection.

As a trauma specialist, I integrate both cutting-edge modalities—like EMDR, IFS, mindful self-compassion, and somatic awareness—and alternative energy-based modalities such as Reiki, crystals, and other intuitive methods.
Religious trauma. Spiritual abuse. Recovery from purity culture. For the past ten years, I’ve specialized in supporting women with complex trauma. In recent years, I’ve added a specialization in religious trauma. Like other forms of trauma, religious trauma often shows up as anxiety, depression, and relational struggles. I primarily work with women, but I’m also an affirming ally of the LGBTQ community. My goal is to help clients untangle the web of thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that keep them feeling stuck—and support them in reclaiming a sense of safety and self. Let's go deeper than symptom relief into real emotional healing.

Psychotherapy is a way to learn more about ourselves, find options for change, and develop skills for managing difficult situations and emotions. While the "story" of pain is important, I offer clients the opportunity to better understand the roots of distress, ways in which bodies hold emotional pain, and clear options for enhancing natural resilience. For over a decade, I have helped clients manage anxiety and depression and recover from addiction and trauma. I work with LGBT clients around trauma and discrimination. With training in EMDR, Gestalt Therapy, and CBT, I offer a variety of therapies based on individual need.

Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapists
What is Internal Family Systems therapy?
Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a type of talk therapy that focuses on sub-personalities, or “families,” within a person, which may be made up of wounded parts and unpleasant emotions like anger and shame. These sub-personalities can come into conflict with each other and with an individual’s core Self, leaving the person feeling detached from positive traits such as the “8 C’s” of confidence, calmness, creativity, clarity, curiosity, courage, compassion, and connectedness. By healing a patient’s wounded parts, a therapist aims to restore balance and bring on positive change.

How does Internal Family Systems therapy work?
An IFS therapist will work with a patient to identify their particular sub-personalities, recognize the emotions powering them, and release them. By doing so, the patient should become more able to address any underlying problems their sub-personalities may have been trying to protect them from. Ultimately, a patient discovers ways to manage internal and external conflicts on their own, through techniques such as relaxation exercises, journaling, and making charts depicting the relationships between their core Self and their distinct parts.

Does Internal Family Systems therapy work?
IFS therapy has been shown to help people address conditions such as depression, anxiety, panic, fears and phobias, trauma, and substance use disorders. Some research has also found that it can help individuals deal with symptoms of physical health conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, such as pain, everyday functioning, depressive feelings, and low self-compassion. There are some conditions for which IFS treatment, specifically discussions of one’s “parts,” may be less appropriate, such as schizophrenia or other states that involve psychosis or paranoia.

How long does Internal Family Systems therapy take?
As with most forms of talk therapy, there is no set duration or end point for IFS therapy. After becoming comfortable with a therapist and the core concepts of IFS, some patients quickly make progress. While experiences vary, most will find that it is a relatively longer-term therapy, involving months and sometimes years of sessions.
