Everybody struggles. Everybody. This is one of the most important life lessons that I have learned. Many people look around and believe that others do not struggle with things in life. They internalize this and then think there is something wrong with them. Realizing the struggles life brings is what drew me to counseling. Working through my own personal struggles has helped me to develop compassion for those who are currently facing challenges in their lives. I am inspired to be in a profession that can assist others to also regain hope and resolve struggles and symptomatic patterns.

When substance abuse is destroying relationships, I will teach them about the disease of addiction, facilitate a substance abuse intervention, and/or provide referrals to additional professional services.
Addiction to drugs and alcohol is destructive not only to the person addicted, but also their family and friends. I specialize in treating addiction and the correlating feelings of worthlessness, depression, and anxiety. Healing from substance abuse and/or mood imbalance is done by strengthening an individual's mental, physical, and spiritual nature, stopping negative cycles, and re-creating an authentic person. To support the healing process I provide therapeutic services for both individuals and their families. Most therapy is usually accomplished in 2-4 months. I offer a consultation to determine if my skill-set matches your needs.

Feeling stuck in a fog of anxiety or weighed down by depression? You’re not alone. Many people feel overwhelmed trying to balance relationships, work, and their own well-being. Maybe you’ve noticed constant worry that drains your energy, days where sadness makes even small tasks feel impossible or frustration when anger pushes loved ones away.

Have you ever said to yourself, "I know I need to do this for myself....., But, I can't". Then then we come up with reasons why; "it is too scary", "I am not competent enough", "I am too tired", "it is too difficult", or maybe even, "I just don't care". We have these internal conflicts that appear in our lives almost daily, If we don't resolve these internal conflicts as they arise they become bigger and more impactful in our day to day functioning, and we can get to a point where we feel "stuck" or trapped in our own lives. We can even get so stuck we start avoiding basic human needs.

You might feel anxious, overwhelmed, or stuck in your own head, even while continuing to function at a high level. You get things done and show up for others, yet your mind doesn’t slow down. You replay conversations, overthink decisions, or carry constant pressure that’s hard to turn off. Part of you feels like you should be able to handle it, which makes it harder to talk about. I work with individuals facing this kind of stress. Many are professionals, students, expat/TCK, LGBTQIA+, POC, and others navigating life transitions, identity, and belonging.

Intervention Therapists
How does an intervention work?
An intervention is a planned, structured meeting in which a person’s family or friends voice concerns about the person’s behavior and its consequences; the goal is for the person to accept treatment. In this meeting, the person’s loved ones (often with the guidance of a trained interventionist) share how the person’s behavior has harmed them and the consequences if the person refuses treatment. They collectively ask the person to accept a proposed treatment plan.

How effective are interventions?
There isn’t extensive research on the efficacy of interventions, in part because success is difficult to measure. Individuals often enter addiction treatment after an intervention, for example, but treatment itself may not work, especially if the person only begins due to external pressure from others rather than due to internal motivation to change. However, if all other attempts at helping someone have failed, an intervention may be worth exploring.

What are the limitations of interventions?
While a friend or family member’s intentions are in the right place in wanting to help a loved one through an intervention, there are significant limitations to the approach. The surprising nature of the event can make the person feel ambushed or judged. They may feel embarrassed or ashamed as a result, and relationships may be strained or broken. This can make it difficult for the individual to be receptive to the concerns of their loved ones and the interventionist.

Are there alternatives to interventions?
Rather than confronting a loved one through an intervention, an effective and less pressured approach is to create space for a caring, open, one-on-one conversation. This works best if the loved one asks open-ended questions, listens attentively to the answers, and frames their observations and statements with concern rather than judgment. More than one conversation may be needed, but change can take root over time.
