I am experienced in treating anxiety/depression, trauma, women's issues, borderline personality disorder, and a host of other challenges.
I believe that despite life’s challenges and often because of these challenges every individual has their own unique capabilities and strengths. Every individual has worth and purpose. I have experience in treating anxiety, depression, trauma, emotional dysregulation, interpersonal challenges, negative/unhelpful thoughts and patterns, and borderline personality disorder.
We can’t predict all of the obstacles we will face in life, but we can be prepared with a tool box of effective and practical skills. I believe in empowering individuals with the skills and mindset they need to face life’s challenges with confidence. You deserve to feel confident and empowered in your own life, instead of feeling like life is taking control of you. You have the ability to make lasting change! I value working together as a team to identify the areas you want to improve and help you learn the skills necessary to see results.

I strongly believe in the facet of the human spirit which is indomitable. This quality traverses culture and ethnicity, and so often plays a major role in recovery. The concept of radical acceptance invites individuals to embrace a regret of the past and fear of the future as part of the human experience while discovering what they truly value as they achieve treatment goals working toward sustainable mental health. As individuals learn to accept the fear that accompanies risk, the journey towards healing is a remarkable one to witness and, for me, is the true payoff as a counselor.

Are you exhausted and hopeless trying to find solutions for your mental health concerns through traditional therapy? Bottom line: Traditional mental health therapies (both therapy and medications) are not very effective at treating severe cases of PTSD, Depression, Anxiety and Addictive disorders such as Alcoholism. The last few years i am very excited to report that i have been treating these severe cases very effectively using an alternative approach called Ketamine Assisted Therapy. Research this online and you will find research studies to back up my statements.

Let’s get started together. It’s easy to feel alone, and we understand how hard change can be. At our core, we know that change is possible as we heal and strengthen our relationships with those who love us best. We improve our relationships as we “come to ourselves” with new clarity and bolstered commitment to openness and healthier habits of acceptance and connection.

My positive outlook on the therapeutic process starts with this quote "In all of living, have much joy and laughter. Life is to be enjoyed, not just endured." - Gordon B. Hinckley. Life should be something that can be enjoyed to the fullest, and if you feel like you aren't there yet, therapy can be a helpful first start in creating the life you are looking for. No matter your situation, I believe that we can work together to help you achieve your goals and help you understand that you matter, and you can do this.

In a world filled with uncertainty we all need anchors and lighthouses to see ourselves with clarity. My clients, or my brothers and sisters, say therapy has been a bridge for them to discover what is real and enlightening. Depression, anxiety and addictions of all types can cause anyone of us to drift from and become lost to our truth. Finding true identity and meaningful purpose is the result of any good therapy and healing. None of us stand alone. We thrive with finding ourselves in truth, our core selves, or as Mark Lundholm said, "Energy with Grace!" This is my mission for my life and my brothers and sisters I work with.

For each of us there is a time in which small moments of insight help us realize we don’t have to go it alone. Those moments are opportunities to act courageously and we have to act quickly before the courage fades and fear kicks in. Independent of the specific struggles we face, a core factor in building resilience is the ability to reach out for support. We ALL need a scaffolding of support. As I've worked nearly the entire spectrum of care, including wilderness therapy, residential programs, an inpatient psychiatric unit, and outpatient private practice, I have come to greatly respect the courage it takes to reach out.

Borderline Personality (BPD) Therapists

What is the most successful approach to treating borderline personality disorder?

Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) is considered the gold standard of treatment for borderline personality disorder. An evidence-based treatment, it addresses the extreme emotional reactivity, the relationship difficulties, and the acts of self-harm that create so much distress for BPD patients. DBT is a comprehensive program that includes both regular individual psychotherapy sessions and weekly group sessions of skills training.

What happens in treatment of borderline personality disorder?

Treatment typically consists of weekly individual therapy sessions that last an hour and group skill-focused instructional sessions that may last up to two hours. Patients are typically given homework “assignments” in which they are asked to practice in their daily life the skills they acquire in therapy. Patients also keep a diary tracking their emotions and impulses as a way to know which situations are most problematic and to help them gain control over their own behavior. Difficult situations and feelings are typically reviewed in therapy sessions and more constructive solutions found.

What kinds of problems does BPD treatment help with?

DBT was initially developed to dampen the self-destructive impulses of chronically suicidal patients. It is now the treatment of choice for borderline personality disorder, a serious condition marked by extreme emotional reactivity, relationship instability, and self-injurious behaviors. Treatment of BPD helps patients tolerate the flux of emotions without acting on them, often with a specific focus on tolerating negative emotions. DBT addresses the core problems of BPD—fear of abandonment, low self-esteem, and impulsivity.

What is the goal of treatment in borderline personality disorder?

The goal of treatment for borderline personality disorder (BPD) is to relieve the extreme emotional distress that patients experience—to curb their emotional reactivity, to minimize their inclination to self-harm, and to reduce their impulsivity. Toward these ends, patients are not only taught an array of new coping skills and techniques for emotional regulation, they are given opportunities to practice them. Another major goal of treatment is interpersonal effectiveness; patients learn and problem-solve ways to effectively communicate in relationships, especially how to ask for what they need as a way to minimize hurt feelings.
