Sexual Abuse Therapists in Lindon, UT
My personal philosophy on trauma informed psychotherapy is based on western & eastern influences & focuses on a three phase model developed by Dr. Judith Herman-stabilization, reprocessing, & re-connection. In therapy with individuals, I work together to honor your unique life history & explore the impact it has on your functioning. In my work I have discovered that amazingly, the natural healing capacity of the human brain runs so deep that even the parts of our lives that are causing us difficulty can guide us toward healing.

Therapy is a sacred space almost unlike any other. Therapy can be hard, as change is for most of us. And yet, there is also laughter, comfort and support, collaboration, aha moments, ease and joy and definitely love and caring.

Physical tension, mood swings, chronic stress, identity struggles, problematic habits and relationship patterns can all come from unresolved events (traumatic or otherwise). As long as these events remain unresolved, those struggles will continue. Maybe you've tried self-help books, coaches, or therapy before, but they felt like just another polite conversation or useful information that doesn't seem to actually spark change. You want to understand what's happening, why, and do something about it, not just be validated and change nothing.

I am a therapist because I believe everyone deserves to be truly seen, heard, and healed. Life might have taught you that you are unworthy, incapable, or unable to experience peace. I hope to guide you through your journey of healing and growth. I believe that the resources you need to find that peace and healing are inside of you–after all, you know yourself and your needs better than anyone. It can be hard to ask for help and be vulnerable with a stranger. I do my best to cultivate an environment where you feel safe to share not only your struggles, but also your joys and laughter.

It’s easy to feel alone in your relationship, or even disconnected from yourself, but no one is meant to carry these struggles alone. Whether you’re feeling distant from your partner, longing for deeper intimacy, or struggling with self-esteem, you don’t have to face it by yourself. Everyone feels alone at times—inside or outside of a relationship. I want to provide a safe, supportive space where you can heal, reconnect, and grow into the person and partner you aspire to be.

Hi I'm Cameron. I specialize in treating sexual addiction, betrayal trauma, and PTSD. I believe that unresolved trauma is at the root of many mental health issues. As we heal from within and resolve past experiences we begin to find more peace in the present moment. I have found that talk therapy doesn't necessarily resolve trauma and that additional interventions are often needed. If you are looking for a very directed and focused approach that is geared towards finding relief from the symptoms of trauma, the approaches I use may be a good fit for you.

My younger sister died by suicide in 2012. Four years later, another loved one died by suicide. After years of not knowing how to deal with the grief of these events—I finally came to therapy. Part of my learning (and unlearning) has been letting go of outside expectations and connecting to my deeper self. This inner work has brought peace, and the energy to show up for others in a meaningful way.

I'd be honored to be by your side, right where you are, as you navigate the turbulent waves of chronic and terminal illnesses and the attending grief they can leave in their wake. There are other losses that can come from these as well such as job loss, marriage strain or divorce, time away from the rest of your family as you spend time at the hospital and more. There's so much that goes on behind the scenes that no one sees. You deserve to be seen, heard, and understood.

I believe everyone has the capacity to change, grow, and adapt. The power of connection cannot be understated. I consider the opportunity to join with someone on their journey an incredibly humbling experience, one on which I am honored to embark with them. Working together, and starting wherever my patients are, we explore their world and work to move them to a happier, healthier and more peaceful place. As a therapist, I believe my role is that of a consultant, partner, and unconditional supporter.

We all have hard times and getting help when that happens can bring you back to feeling good and functioning well in all the areas of your life. Your feelings are valid! After going through some things, I find I’m more aware of the needs and pitfalls associated with difficult life transitions, effects of trauma, marriage and family relationship difficulties and coping with unexpected things.

Sexual Abuse Therapists
How do therapists treat sexual abuse?
A good therapist will be nonjudgmental and possibly demonstrate active listening, repeating back what the client says to show that they have understood. These skills allow people to feel comfortable discussing their traumatic experiences openly. Some important treatment goals are to restore a sense of safety and to rebuild confidence. In addition to working one-on-one with the patient, a therapist might bring in supportive family members to assist the client.
Do you have to talk extensively about sexual abuse in therapy?
Survivors frequently find it difficult to describe what happened to them out loud. They can even still be in a state of denial if the sexual abuse occurred recently. It is important for survivors to acknowledge that what happened isn’t their fault and to challenge and reappraise any unhealthy feelings or thoughts as they arise. Art therapy and play therapy are useful non-verbal means of communication for some survivors.
How long does treatment for sexual abuse take?
Recovery from sexual abuse can be a long and difficult process. Some survivors are able to move on naturally on their own, given time, while others require the guidance of a trained therapist. Therapy needs vary and can range from a few sessions to months or even years. Healing from sexual abuse takes time, and everyone’s journey will look a little different.
Can trauma symptoms caused by sexual abuse come back after treatment?
As occurs in many cases of trauma, survivors of sexual abuse may experience PTSD-like symptoms long after the abuse has ceased or after an initial round of treatment has occurred. In such a case, there is evidence that prolonged exposure therapy is a useful treatment for survivors, and may be more efficacious than supportive counseling alone. While triggers may continue to cause distress, the idea is that, with time and repeated exposure, their power will fade, allowing survivors to move on with their lives.
