Sexual abuse and trauma, for adults carrying something they never fully told.
You feel stuck — in your relationship, in your body, in patterns you can’t break. Maybe you and your partner stopped really connecting. Maybe shame around intimacy has been quietly running things for years. Maybe something painful happened and it changed how you show up in relationships.  That stuck feeling isn’t permanent. I specialize in couples therapy, sex therapy, and trauma — helping people untangle where past hurts show up in present relationships. Whether you’re coming with your partner or on your own, this is a space where you can finally be honest about what’s really going on.

No guilt, no blame, no shame. If you examine your life journey, you will most likely find that you are where you are for a reason and that reason has nothing to do with fate, destiny, or even luck. If you aren't satisfied with where your life is headed, I believe you have the power and ability to change it. I have experience working with individuals, couples, families, and groups. As a 20 year military veteran with multiple deployments I have insight and experience working with combat related Post Traumatic Stress and Military Family Life issues. I am also licensed to provide video and phone service for clients living in Idaho.

You’ve been working harder than anyone realizes just to keep it together — at work, at home, in your own head. The self-doubt, the anxiety, the feeling that no matter what you do it’s never enough. Maybe you’ve white-knuckled your way through for years.  But the same frustration keeps returning because coping skills alone don’t reach what’s underneath. I work with adults carrying experiences they may not even call trauma yet — and I specialize in getting to the root, not just managing the surface. If you’re tired of putting in effort and ending up back in the same place, there’s another way forward.

That constant knot in your chest isn't just stress and you're not "just overthinking it." You've been managing anxiety so long you forgot what it feels like to not carry it. You apologize when someone bumps into you. You rehearse texts before you send them. You say "I'm fine" so often you've stopped noticing you're lying. Underneath all of that is someone who learned a long time ago that their needs don't matter. I work with people carrying anxiety, depression, and the weight of old trauma, and I help them put it down.

You know something needs to change — you just can’t put your finger on exactly what. Maybe it’s the weight of the past, the stress of right now, or the worry about what’s coming next. You don’t need a diagnosis or a script to start. You just need to be willing to show up. I work with teens, adults, and first responders who are ready to do the work, even when they’re not sure where to begin. Therapy with me is equal parts hard work and laughter — because growth doesn’t have to be miserable. And when we’re done? You’ll know you can handle whatever comes next.

I've seen how when one person is struggling in a family, everyone can feel it. I use relationships and effective communication to help people express their feelings and better their connections to find peace and happiness as they learn to navigate their emotions and hardships in life. Healing can happen, and it often comes through finding unity with others and within.

Sexual Abuse Therapists
How do therapists treat sexual abuse?
A good therapist will be nonjudgmental and possibly demonstrate active listening, repeating back what the client says to show that they have understood. These skills allow people to feel comfortable discussing their traumatic experiences openly. Some important treatment goals are to restore a sense of safety and to rebuild confidence. In addition to working one-on-one with the patient, a therapist might bring in supportive family members to assist the client.

Do you have to talk extensively about sexual abuse in therapy?
Survivors frequently find it difficult to describe what happened to them out loud. They can even still be in a state of denial if the sexual abuse occurred recently. It is important for survivors to acknowledge that what happened isn’t their fault and to challenge and reappraise any unhealthy feelings or thoughts as they arise. Art therapy and play therapy are useful non-verbal means of communication for some survivors.

How long does treatment for sexual abuse take?
Recovery from sexual abuse can be a long and difficult process. Some survivors are able to move on naturally on their own, given time, while others require the guidance of a trained therapist. Therapy needs vary and can range from a few sessions to months or even years. Healing from sexual abuse takes time, and everyone’s journey will look a little different.

Can trauma symptoms caused by sexual abuse come back after treatment?
As occurs in many cases of trauma, survivors of sexual abuse may experience PTSD-like symptoms long after the abuse has ceased or after an initial round of treatment has occurred. In such a case, there is evidence that prolonged exposure therapy is a useful treatment for survivors, and may be more efficacious than supportive counseling alone. While triggers may continue to cause distress, the idea is that, with time and repeated exposure, their power will fade, allowing survivors to move on with their lives.
