We all need support, life brings planed and unexpected change, transitions and requited growth. My clients may feel the pressure of perfectionism, feeling not-good-enough or second guessing themselves, feeling stuck in life. They may have physical or emotional pain and a big stress overload. Often feeling pulled in too many directions, with too many responsibilities, caring for too many projects or people. They can feel lost or adrift, that life is not progressing or as meaningful or happy as they had hoped. Grief & loss build up & worry about the ability to change can immobilize so they often feel stuck & afraid in life.

I'm happy to partner with you wherever you are on your journey. Although change is a natural part of our lives, it's still often tough, especially if you struggle with depression or anxiety - or both. Whether you're facing transition within your professional life, from college into career, making your way towards graduation, or are experiencing challenges within your relationship, you don't have to do it alone. I am currently not accepting new patients.

Sometimes life can be painful. When depression, anxiety, grief and loss or stress from a traumatic event interfere with your ability to function at your best, feelings of hopelessness and helplessness increase and self confidence all but disappears. This is when anger, fear, sadness and despair take a toll not only on you but on the relationships with those you love. I can help you examine these difficult feelings in a safe, non judgmental environment. As new ways of thinking and communicating are learned and practiced, your life and your relationships will be deepened and enriched.

Available state wide through video conferencing. Many people struggle with feeling different, strange, or like others do not relate to them well. Many people feel like they have to hide who they are and have no place to be themselves. Many new clients worry about being pushed to confront truths and emotions before they are ready. I seek to first get clients ready to change then support them as they lead the way. This goes for the person with depression who needs to reshape their relationships; the person with PTSD facing their painful past; and the gay person grappling with the consequences of coming out or not.

Functional Therapy is a wrap-around, holistic method including analysis of one's sleep, exercise, dietary, recreating and stress-juggling patterns. A tuned-up body/brain can significantly facilitate cognitive/emotive progress. A kaizen approach to change allows real-world, practical strategies for growth in a short time-frame. Some issues may take longer, yet with a brief, solution-focused approach many clients reach their goals within a few meetings. My approach is down-to-earth, unorthodox, humorous when needed and with gentle, yet straight-forward feedback building on strengths and resiliency you already possess.

Are you experiencing stress, loneliness or emotional pain related to a major life change, a relationship crisis, or a struggle with anxiety or depression? I have over 16 years of experience working with people wrestling with these kinds of issues. I find great satisfaction in helping people navigate concerns related to spiritual questioning and transition. It is an honor to work with individuals healing from trauma or who are seeking relief from depression or anxiety. I find my work with couples who are having difficulty communicating, resolving conflict or repairing after betrayal very meaningful.

Connection is the antidote to everything. Having a felt sense of connection to others and to ourselves is often missing or underrated in our lives. As human beings, we need to feel seen, heard, and understood. Without these essential nutrients we are bound to seek fulfillment or satiation from things outside ourselves, that feel good in the moment but don’t actually meet our needs. I want to help my clients figure out what is getting in the way of having their needs met and how to approach their lives with authenticity and a broader sense of self.

Hi! You've made it to Psychology Today which tells me you are taking the first steps to possibly seeing a therapist. It's kind of intimidating, right? I'd rather it not be, and it doesn't have to be. If you are looking for someone who is easy to talk to, compassionate, positive psychology driven, but also isn't afraid to perhaps sometimes gently call you out... I'm available. I specialize in the treatment of complex trauma, sexual addictions, and anxiety. I once heard trauma defined as "anything less than nurturing that has happened to you". There is no trauma too little to be addressed in life. You are worthy of healing.

Addiction and its accompanying issues make life a struggle for both the client and for those who love them. Those in active addiction intuitively know there is a gap between the life they're demonstrating and the possibilities their potential affords - if they could only get out of their own way. My methods promote profound fundamental change: the shedding of self-destructive attributes, the definition of a clear, compelling vision for the future, and the tools clients need to implement strategies that will enable them to become the best possible version of themselves.

Drug Abuse Therapists

How do substance and drug recovery or rehabilitation programs work?

In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other clients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals reside at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff often also includes people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other methods.

How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?

Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.

How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for substance use reduce the amount of drugs they consume. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.

Are there specific medications for substance and drug use?

There are medications approved to treat substance use disorder—such as buprenorphine, methadone, naltrexone, and acamprosate. These medications do help people cope with substance use as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone can help reduce cravings, methadone is an opioid medication used to treat severe pain, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.
