My primary methods of treatment include Mind-Body Bridging (MBB), Cognitive Behavioral (CBT) as well as Supportive Therapy with strategic guidance to build healthy relationships with self and others.
Are you feeling angry? Maybe in the dumps with little motivation? Is your mind often scattered or confused? Paralyzed by worry? Do you often experience conflict in relationships which mean the most to you? Does it seem like regardless of the efforts you make, returns are minimal to none? I have built my practice helping others reconnect to their innate place of clarity and well-being, to then resume life guided by their self-power and wisdom, experiencing a true satisfaction and success.

I enjoying working with individuals, as well as facilitating skills groups. I currently work with individuals that are navigating various life events, and attempting to improve their quality of life! In addition, many of the people I see look for assistance in navigating faith transitions, relationship difficulties, ruminative thoughts, trauma, and ineffective patterns of behavior . I enjoy a DBT, CBT, Attachment Theory, and Mindfulness approach to my work with clients. Overall, I work to normalize the experiences that my clients are having. We all make sense, in the context of our unique lives and experiences!

Available state wide through video conferencing. Many people struggle with feeling different, strange, or like others do not relate to them well. Many people feel like they have to hide who they are and have no place to be themselves. Many new clients worry about being pushed to confront truths and emotions before they are ready. I seek to first get clients ready to change then support them as they lead the way. This goes for the person with depression who needs to reshape their relationships; the person with PTSD facing their painful past; and the gay person grappling with the consequences of coming out or not.

I believe people are understandable and once we reach understanding, solutions seem evident. If you have sought help before and just didn't feel you got to the bottom of the problems or if you are new to therapy and really want deeper solutions I can help you. Psychotherapy is the science and art of clinical work. We will collaborate: you being the authority of your life, and me the authority of psychology and human emotion.

Have you ever wondered, "If people knew who I really am, would they still love me?" These and other (painful) questions and doubts can be the beginning of amazing journeys of self-discovery. Deep inner work can be both difficult and rewarding. I do my best to bring to therapy an attitude of deep respect for my clients and the challenges that life brings. I believe I can help make the journeys of self-discovery more rewarding and a bit less rocky -- whether the time we work together be brief or more lengthy.

Are you stuck in a picture you created as a child? A picture with children and a blissful relationship? As women, we strive for the "what should be". Sometimes those pictures need to contain fluidity and movement and morph into something that we never expected. Many women experience infant loss, infertility, child loss, perinatal mood and anxiety disorders and don't know where to go, who to ask, or if something might be wrong with you. Some women experience the trauma of the NICU life, a medical termination, and so much more.

Kristen believes that play is the most important work that a child can engage in. Providing a safe space for children to engage in that play is work that she is passionate about. Kristen also works with young people who have disabilities in feeling seen as valuable people rather than for their disabilities, in assisting parents to learn how to advocate for their child, and in teaching children how to advocate for themselves.

We all need support, life brings planed and unexpected change, transitions and requited growth. My clients may feel the pressure of perfectionism, feeling not-good-enough or second guessing themselves, feeling stuck in life. They may have physical or emotional pain and a big stress overload. Often feeling pulled in too many directions, with too many responsibilities, caring for too many projects or people. They can feel lost or adrift, that life is not progressing or as meaningful or happy as they had hoped. Grief & loss build up & worry about the ability to change can immobilize so they often feel stuck & afraid in life.

Behavioral Issues Therapists

What happens in therapy for behavioral issues?

No matter the type of therapy, individuals form an alliance with the therapist; that connection is often therapeutic in itself, plus it becomes an instrument of change. Individuals learn to identify situations that are especially troublesome for them and acquire new patterns of thinking and behaving. In therapy for ADHD, one of the most common behavior issues for children, individuals learn how to improve frustration tolerance, control impulsivity, manage attentional focus, and gain skills of self-organisation.

What therapy types help with behavioral issues?

Many types of therapy have been found effective, each targeting one or more areas of dysfunction. Perhaps best-known and most widely tested is cognitive and behavioral therapy (CBT), in which individuals learn new behavioral strategies and curb reactivity to frustrating or distressing situations that trigger disruptive behaviour. Anger, anxiety, mood disorders, impulse control problems are commonly addressed in CBT. Family therapy or parent management training is often helpful to reduce parent-child conflict and behavioral difficulties at home.

How long does therapy last for behavioral issues?

Among popular approaches to treating behavioral concerns, CBT is considered a short-term therapy intended to be administered in 15 to 20 weekly sessions. Parent training in behavior management, often used when the underlying cause of behavior issues is ADHD in children under 12, usually occurs in weekly sessions for 8 to 16 weeks. When behavioral issues stem from persistent aggression or defiance, therapy may last for months, and usually targets both children and their parents.

How effective is therapy for behavior issues?

Studies show that therapy for behavior issues in children is highly effective and may prevent the development of antisocial behavior later in life. Family intervention—parent management training or family therapy, both of which involve parents and children together—is considered most effective, notably for children under age 12 who persistently engage in aggressive, defiant, rule-breaking or other disruptive behavior. Whether provided alone or in combination with medication, CBT is highly effective in helping people regulate their emotions, and for people with ADHD, it addresses impulsiveness, hyperactivity and attentional focus.
