Most people don’t come to counseling just for insight—they come because they want real change they can feel in their daily lives. My approach emphasizes honoring each client’s autonomy and wisdom while working collaboratively to build the skills and resources they need to reach their goals. With this in mind, I focus on helping clients develop practical tools for grounding and resilience, so we can work together on the deeper patterns that contribute to stress, anxiety, fear, or unease.

I have 11 years of total experience working with high risk adolescents who have struggled with addiction, anxiety based disorders, depression, PTSD and parent child relationship conflict. However, I also see couples, adults and have found enjoyment in helping parents learn better ways to work with their children who struggle considerably emotional distress. I believe that therapy is intended to locate the cause of distress rather than coping only. Proper treatment begins with proper diagnosis. People desire to find a way to get what they want in a healthy and appropriate way.

We all experience life’s journey in unique ways. In every path we come across obstacles, form relationships, experience loss, misunderstanding, confusion, anger, and dismay. But we also experience happiness, hope, love and connection. We use these experiences to make meaning and find purpose. However, we, our relationships, and this world are constantly changing. It can be hard to communicate our true meaning or trust that when we do, we will be heard.

Life isn’t always easy, and you don’t have to go through it alone. At some point, we all face moments when we feel lost, overwhelmed, or stuck. Therapy isn’t about having all the answers; it’s about having a safe space where you can explore your thoughts and feelings without fear of judgment. My approach is rooted in empathy, curiosity, and a deep respect for each person’s journey. Healing is not one-size-fits-all, and therapy should reflect that. I draw upon several evidence-based approaches, including: Internal Family Systems (IFS), EMDR, Brainspotting, Sandtray Therapy, and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT).

As a psychotherapist, I am inspired by my clients who come to therapy wondering if life can improve, just to find that there is healing of wounds. They realize that they too can elevate their life. I value being an open, understanding, and compassionate person who puts the clients needs and desires first. Clients working with me feel safe in being raw about their feelings and thoughts, knowing that our therapy is a place of acceptance and curiosity, and not a place of judgement. I have a strong belief that no matter how severe the symptoms or how immense the problem there are ways to heal, improve, and move toward a successful life.

As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?
There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.
How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?
Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client.
Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?
Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with therapists of a specific gender. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.
Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?
Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
