I love helping a person become their best version of themselves. Most people seeking counseling feel defeated. My strategies help them find hope and to develop new approaches to help them become powerful people with tangible and deep changes in how they feel and in their beliefs about themselves so that they are living lives of joy and fulfillment. Ideally a client is ready to try new approaches to their life, is ready to get out of the constant cycle of overthinking, and is ready to take a journey deep inside where they can heal emotionally and physically, and emerge ready to truly LIVE.

I enjoy working with adults, children, and military families providing treatment to address depression, anxiety, stress, anger issues, women's issues, and relationship problems.
Life is a journey. Sometimes you get to walk along an easy trail with nice views. Sometimes you have to climb hills that go on forever. And sometimes you run into switchbacks and you feel like you aren't going anywhere. NEW Beginnings is a place to start your new adventure towards wellness and living a whole hearted life. I have been a mental health therapist for 13 years, walking with my clients to help them face their challenges and overcome them. I work through Headway as well as Simple Practice.

Depression, anxiety, anger, frustration, hurt, loneliness, etc.
Previous client's have said: 'The sessions with Carol felt amazing and afterward I could feel a significant decrease in anxiety.' 'Since completing therapy I haven't had a single panic attack (at one point she was having 4-5 panic attacks a day). ' Finding Carol was key to discovering how I could heal life traumas...I now feel great and optimistic...'

We live in the "information age" where there is so much information coming at us that it's common to feel overwhelmed and not know where to start when pursuing personal growth. If that describes you (or your relationships) I can help. Through 25+ years of practice, I've refined a number of ways to help clients identify their roadblocks and move past them toward the goals they want to achieve. I am here to work for you and your success, and my clients have described our time together as positive, fun, and energizing. I don't have an agenda other than to help you get what you came for. Let's work together and build on your dreams.

My ideal clients are adults and adolescents (12+) dealing with anxiety, trauma, or PTSD who are ready to do something about it. They're often high-functioning on the outside but exhausted on the inside, stuck in patterns they can't seem to break on their own. They come to me when talk therapy alone hasn't been enough, or when they want real results without years of weekly sessions. Using ART, CBT, and DBT, I help clients process what's holding them back and build practical tools to move forward, often faster than they expected.

I know coming to therapy is a big step and takes a lot of courage just to begin. Being human is very uncomfortable at times; for most of us it's challenging to know what to do with distressing thoughts and feelings. I work with clients not just to help them reduce their distress, but also to help them make choices guided by their own values instead of by avoidance or anxiety. My goal is to help each person live a more meaningful and fulfilling life, even during difficult experiences.

In therapy, my goal is to help you expand your capacity, discover your strengths, and feel empowered to embrace the complexity and uncertainty of the world we live in. Coping is not the same as healing therefore I use a blend of evidence-based approaches including Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavior Therapy (TF-CBT), Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Family Systems Therapy, and mindfulness. I also value the power of movement and somatic awareness in healing, and I integrate that wisdom when it's helpful.

My ideal client is a child, teen, young adult, or adult who feels overwhelmed, stuck, or burned out from trying to hold it all together. Some come from court-involved families where chaos is the norm. Others are just trying to find clarity in a world that often feels upside down. Kids may struggle with big emotions or social skills; older clients might be navigating anxiety, self-doubt, or major life shifts. I offer a grounded, real space to explore not just coping strategies, but deeper meaning — helping clients connect with themselves, expand their view of the world, and move toward something more authentic and aligned.

I’m Dr. Brian Hansen — a psychologist, executive coach, and musician. For more than a decade, I’ve worked with people facing trauma, anxiety, depression, ADHD, OCD, parenting challenges, and the complicated struggles that come with identity, faith, and relationships. My approach is practical but deeply personal. I draw from cognitive and behavioral tools, existential exploration, and creative practices like music, writing, and art. I believe healing isn’t one-size-fits-all — it’s a mix of science, grit, and honest connection. Teaching and public speaking are parts of my work I love, because they let me bring humor and authenticity.

If you've tried therapy before and feel like you didn't get to the root or as deep as you would have liked to, I'm your girl! I believe that there is no one “right” route to take in life. In my work I use a person-centered and strengths-based approach. Together we will create your life worth living and release the pain that's in the way. I hope at the end of our time together you will have more loving connections, playfulness, and meaning. Together we will celebrate victories, no matter how small. We will laugh, grieve, be angry, cry, and smile throughout the process.

Life is an interesting mixture of both ups and downs. Having the courage to ask for help with difficult situations should not be an unpleasant process in and of itself. The process of learning and growing should be filled with encouragement and increased happiness, even when discussing difficult topics. In my 25+ years of experience, I have helped people with a variety of obstacles including, marital/couples strife, parent/child conflict, adoption and attachment issues, grief and trauma related difficulties, substance use problems, child/adolescent behavioral issues, school/educational planning, and mental health diagnoses.

I have a personal history of anxiety and depression, and I know how difficult life can be when these things weigh you down. Fortunately, this doesn’t have to be the case. I am experienced in applying therapeutic skills that I personally know to be powerful in relieving suffering and emotional pain. My experiences with these challenges allow me to work from a caring, empathic position. Also, I have experience working with interpersonal conflict resolution and self-esteem struggles. I enjoy working with teens and adults in the pursuit of improving lives. I also work well with members of the LGBTQ+ community.

Anger Management Therapists
How long does therapy take for anger management?
Treatment duration depends on the person’s specific challenges and circumstances. There are treatments for anger problems that are shorter and more goal-oriented, like Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), which can last weeks to months. Others, like Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) may last between six months and a year, while a more intensive treatment, like psychodynamic therapy, is open-ended, and clients may see their therapist for a year or longer.

How do you know if you need therapy for anger management?
Everyone gets mad from time to time. But when angry outbursts become frequent and cause damage to relationships, whether at home or in the office, it may be a good time to look into therapy. A therapist can assess where a client’s anger may be coming from, suggest strategies for averting angry outbursts, and help a client create a plan to become a calmer version of themselves.

Is there medication for anger management?
Medications do exist that help people mitigate the feeling of anger, but these are reserved for people with anger-related psychiatric disorders, such as intermittent explosive disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, or in some cases borderline personality disorder. In these cases, antidepressant medications may be prescribed to help with the client’s symptoms. In most cases of anger management, however, talk therapy is the recommended treatment, along with lifestyle changes where relevant.

What’s the best way to encourage someone to seek help for anger issues?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either themselves or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
