Trauma may often leave us feeling disconnected—from ourselves, and the inner wisdom that guides us. While I believe in our innate ability to heal, life experiences can sometimes cloud that connection. My passion is working with those who have experienced trauma, helping them rediscover self-trust, reconnect with lost parts of themselves, and move toward healing with greater awareness, empathy, and compassion. It’s my mission to guide you on this journey with care, helping you reclaim a sense of wholeness and connection.

My 1st priority in therapy is creating an inviting space in which my clients feel safe and comfortable. I hate going to the doctor or the dentist and feeling judged or anxious about what they will think about me. I strive to help my clients in never experiencing these thoughts or feelings when entering my office. Second, my goal is to create a space for my clients to work towards their desires and goals in therapy with a task-oriented approach. I believe this assists the client in effectively measuring their progress towards their own goals in therapy. Tailoring each session towards the client's individual goals and needs is my goal

I have a passion for working with people from all walks of life. Oftentimes we may feel alone or like our problems are so great they cannot be overcome. Other times we can feel a lot of shame about reaching out for help and see it as a sign of weakness or failure. I can assure you that you are not alone in your suffering or with your specific problems. Change, connection, and relief from mental and emotional suffering is possible. It is important to remember that we humans are social creatures and that reaching out for connection and support is built in to who we are, not a sign of weakness.

My name is April Garcia, I am a therapist that provides Telehealth services in both English and Spanish. I am a firm believer that therapy is for everyone, and we should all experience therapy at least once in our lives. Why? Because therapy provides a safe place to express ourselves and heal. It is a way to bring forward the traumas that sometimes we try to bury down and keep hidden, it is a way to understand ourselves and those around us better, and also a way to become the best version of us we can be.

I have been in residential substance abuse most of my career and I have a SUDC license. I moved over to general outpatient in 2019 and have been working with a wide array of clients since then. Since most of my career and training has been with single adults, I do not see children and I do not work with couples and families. I am a challenging yet supportive therapist who works with clients to reframe negative thought patterns into positive, empowering perspectives. I am passionate about guiding individuals toward self-awareness and meaningful change through the transformative power of self-acceptance and compassionate reflection.

Telehealth appointments available now! For many of us, the decision to seek therapy isn't an easy one. It can be hard to admit there is a problem we can't solve on our own, or to face the feelings that we get so good at pushing away. Healing is possible--even from trauma and loss. The process works best when you find someone who you feel is on your side, and is working with you to help you reach your goals. I hope I can be that person for you! I have successfully treated PTSD, anxiety disorders, depression, and more. As a working mother myself, I feel a special desire to help other moms achieve their mental health goals.

I aim to support women who are ready to are ready to live life on their terms. Clients come to me with a goal to feel peace and purpose. Most of the people I see are fed up with trying to please everyone else and don't know how to recognize, let alone meet, their own needs. They are ready to figure out who they are and what they genuinely want. In order to do this they need a neutral, supportive person to hear them out without forcing an outside agenda. They want to feel validated, understood, and empowered to create a life they can be proud of and surround themselves with people who accept them as they are.

Are you feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, or just tired of always being strong? Maybe part of you feels distant from yourself, worn down, or unsure how to keep carrying everything on your own. Therapy can offer a place to slow down and breathe. It’s a space where experiences can be explored with care, without pressure to revisit every painful detail or explain everything perfectly. The goal is to create an environment that feels gentle, genuine, and supportive.

You’ve been working harder than anyone realizes just to keep it together — at work, at home, in your own head. The self-doubt, the anxiety, the feeling that no matter what you do it’s never enough. Maybe you’ve white-knuckled your way through for years.
But the same frustration keeps returning because coping skills alone don’t reach what’s underneath. I work with adults carrying experiences they may not even call trauma yet — and I specialize in getting to the root, not just managing the surface. If you’re tired of putting in effort and ending up back in the same place, there’s another way forward.

Sexual Abuse Therapists
How do therapists treat sexual abuse?
A good therapist will be nonjudgmental and possibly demonstrate active listening, repeating back what the client says to show that they have understood. These skills allow people to feel comfortable discussing their traumatic experiences openly. Some important treatment goals are to restore a sense of safety and to rebuild confidence. In addition to working one-on-one with the patient, a therapist might bring in supportive family members to assist the client.
Do you have to talk extensively about sexual abuse in therapy?
Survivors frequently find it difficult to describe what happened to them out loud. They can even still be in a state of denial if the sexual abuse occurred recently. It is important for survivors to acknowledge that what happened isn’t their fault and to challenge and reappraise any unhealthy feelings or thoughts as they arise. Art therapy and play therapy are useful non-verbal means of communication for some survivors.
How long does treatment for sexual abuse take?
Recovery from sexual abuse can be a long and difficult process. Some survivors are able to move on naturally on their own, given time, while others require the guidance of a trained therapist. Therapy needs vary and can range from a few sessions to months or even years. Healing from sexual abuse takes time, and everyone’s journey will look a little different.
Can trauma symptoms caused by sexual abuse come back after treatment?
As occurs in many cases of trauma, survivors of sexual abuse may experience PTSD-like symptoms long after the abuse has ceased or after an initial round of treatment has occurred. In such a case, there is evidence that prolonged exposure therapy is a useful treatment for survivors, and may be more efficacious than supportive counseling alone. While triggers may continue to cause distress, the idea is that, with time and repeated exposure, their power will fade, allowing survivors to move on with their lives.
