For more than 25 years, I have worked with children, teens, and adults coping with a variety of problems and situations. Through therapy, I believe that people can develop greater insight and more adaptive, life-affirming ways of coping with their unique difficulties and circumstances. I have worked extensively with individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, health problems, loss, grief, and relationship/family/parenting issues. I received my PhD in Clinical Psychology from the Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology at Yeshiva University in New York City.

Due to my clinical training and experience, my services are best suited for families experiencing relationship issues, parenting stress, divorce, mood disorders, anxiety disorders, attachment issues, developmental disabilities, and immigration-related concerns. Each of my clients receives an individualized treatment plan, and when required, a battery of tests tailored to the individual needs of the client. My work often includes school visits, participating in IEP meetings, home visits, collaboration with pediatricians and psychiatrists, testifying in court, and consulting with experts.

Over the years, I have seen many people enter the therapeutic journey with doubt and hesitancy, and emerge with a renewed sense of meaning and joy in connecting with others. I am passionate about what I do and I deeply believe that good psychotherapy can transform lives. I hold a doctorate degree in clinical psychology and have post-graduate training, as well as special interest, in addressing sexual issues, relationship difficulties, and struggles with life transitions.

I am a licensed clinical psychologist with experience treating adults, college students, adolescents, and children. I received my doctoral degree from Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology and a masters in Industrial Organizational Psychology from Columbia University. I completed my clinical training at the New York Center for Children, Columbia University Medical Center, and the Jewish Child Care Center.

Emi provides individual and group therapy in the following areas: children, adolescents, families and adults, addressing the life issues of major loss, grief and trauma, anger, stress, crisis management, conflict resolution and negotiation, self-esteem and depression. She has many years of experience working in private practice, county mental health and working with the court system. Her practice of therapy is guided by the belief that no matter what happened, all persons have the ability to show resilience, to gather strength, and to learn new skills in order to improve their quality of life.

Dr. Vierbuchen specializes in child, adult, and family therapy. She believes therapy is an opportunity for people to understand their problems in new ways and learn skills that allow them to lead healthier and more fulfilling lives. Her approach is compassionate and competence-based and utilizes cognitive-behavioral, interpersonal, and systemic strategies to promote change.

I am a compassionate humanist firmly grounded in science and research. I don’t judge, condemn, or rate anyone. Instead, I unconditionally accept all people and encourage them to find new ways to approach life with a minimum of fear and turmoil. I studied Cognitive Behavioral Therapy with its developer, Dr. Albert Ellis, with whom I have written 3 books and numerous articles. My work includes authoring 6 books, 7 chapters, and 20 journal articles. I am a Professor in NYU’s MA psychology program and an examiner for psychologists seeking board certification. But foremost, I am a clinician who understands emotional pain.
