My approach to therapy is primarily relationship-based and person-centered, including elements of ACT, psychodynamic, and existential modalities.
Accepting new clients! Reaching out to a therapist can feel vulnerable and overwhelming–I’ve been there too. I remember the fear and self-doubt involved in asking for help, but most importantly, I remember the therapists who helped me through. I’d love to do the same for you.

Treatment modalities that I use are Cognitive-Behavioral, Psychodynamic, Strengths-based and Solution-Focused therapy depending on which combination suits my client.
As a therapist, I work collaboratively with my clients in processing their experiences and finding healthy and productive ways to solve problems as well as gain insight into the reasons for maladaptive behaviors. In the treatment process, I encourage clients to formulate their own treatment goals and we will work together to find ways to achieve these goals via modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral, Psychodynamic, Solutions-focused interventions. I see my role as one of support, guidance, active listening, and empowering the client to develop positive coping mechanisms in the process of making changes to thoughts and behaviors.

I utilize a combination of the Psychodynamic and Cognitive-Behavioral (CBT) approaches as both incorporate the aspects self-awareness and change.
My belief is that effective counseling develops from establishing a collaborative relationship with clients, as they are the experts in their lives. Through psychodynamic therapy individuals gain a self-awareness and understanding of the influence of their past on present circumstances, and enables individuals to explore unresolved conflicts and symptoms that arise from past dysfunctional relationships and manifest themselves in current issues going in their lives. My belief is that people want to be healthy and happy and sometimes just do not know where to start.

I have a great deal of experience in Psychodynamic therapy as well as symptom-focused therapies, career counseling, and coaching.
I partner with clients to create lasting change, by examining their strengths, challenges, and obstacles. My clients span across race, ethnicity, culture, age, sexual orientation, and spiritual beliefs. I work with individuals, couples, and families. People often come to therapy because they feel a gap in being understood- by a friend, by a partner, someone at work, or even by themselves. In our work, we explore new ways of thinking, communicating, reducing stress, and improving relationships.

I am a trauma-informed, psychodynamic therapist with a background in Somatic (body-oriented) Psychology.
We all long for deep, authentic connections, but we can often get stuck in old patterns with those we love. We end up sacrificing our needs, avoiding vulnerability, or "acting out" in ways we don't understand. I enjoy helping people with trusting their intuition, building self-esteem, communicating effectively, and creating meaningful boundaries and connections in relationships. I work with individuals, couples, and families of all ages, backgrounds, and identities. Together, we can identify new tools for navigating anxiety, depression, stress, and bodily symptoms often rooted in unresolved trauma.

I practice from a psychodynamic and trauma-informed theoretical framework; however, I do not believe there is a “one size fits all” style of treatment.
Many of the individuals and couples I work with are experiencing anxiety, depression, major life changes, difficulties managing everyday stressors and interpersonal relationship issues. They come to therapy to explore their histories, increase self-awareness, identify patterns, improve communication, process feelings/emotions and gain coping skills and tools to better manage their circumstances. I recognize that every client comes to therapy with unique experiences and needs, which is why we will take time to build a therapeutic relationship and work together to identify your goals.

What does that mean? It means I use evidence based techniques with a combination of relational, psychodynamic, and humanistic/existential techniques to help you make tangible progress and deepen affect and meaning.
I love seeing toddlers and children of all ages, parents, and adults. I am very helpful when it comes to becoming a little braver and having more compassion for yourself, especially if you've gone through some very hard times. I also love helping new mothers and young children co-regulate and get the most out of early childhood.

I use various approaches including psychodynamic, relational, narrative, and IFS therapies.
Repeated behaviors and feelings show up in our lives and can get in the way of growth, healing, and positive relationships. As your therapist, I will help you connect the dots in your life story to reveal what may be keeping you ‘stuck’. I have seen how transformative it is when someone gains a bird’s-eye view of their life, and I consider it a privilege to play an active role in this process with you.

Does insurance cover therapy, prescriptions and other behavioral health services?

In general, yes. Laws in the U.S. require insurers to cover essential behavioral health care at the same level as other health care services. Most health plans require a medical diagnosis and treatments that are evidence based and medically essential. This means that life coaching and alternative therapies are not covered, nor is therapy without a diagnosis. Call the number on the back or your insurance card or visit your insurance company's website to review your Summary of Benefits. If you have insurance through your employer, your Human Resources department may also be able to answer questions.

How much does therapy cost with insurance?

The cost of therapy depends on your region, how much training and experience your therapist has, and the type of treatment. The rate for talk therapy generally falls between $100 and $250. For a client seeing an in-network provider, the cost of therapy is often similar to the cost of other health care services. Clients pay co-pays and may need to satisfy a plan’s deductible before benefits kick in.

What is the difference between In-Network and Out-of-Network insurance coverage?

An in-network provider has contracted with an insurer to get paid directly for services, and to accept the insurer’s rate of compensation. Clients are responsible for deductibles and copays. If a therapist is out of network, that means that the client pays the therapist directly for services at the therapist’s regular fee. Out-of-Network providers often give clients a receipt so that they can file for partial reimbursement with their insurance company.

Is it difficult to find an In-Network therapist?

It is not unusual for therapists to limit the number of insurance patients in their practice, so it’s important to check in-network availability when you schedule your first appointment. In regions and times where therapy is in high demand it may take longer to get scheduled with an in-network therapist.

What is the difference between HMO and PPO insurance plans?

HMO health plans only cover in-network services, there is no reimbursement for out-of-network providers. PPO plans often cover both in- and out-of-network services, though the client may pay more for out-of-network services.

What is a Superbill?

A superbill is a receipt for therapy services. It provides all the information required by insurance companies to reimburse you for out-of-network services, including the diagnostic codes for your care, the amount paid, and the dates and duration of care.

Does insurance cover Online therapy?

Many therapists who shifted their practice to online therapy during the pandemic have kept that arrangement. And most insurers continue to cover telehealth services, with a few exceptions. Preventive care (such as an annual depression screening) is often required to be in-person to be covered, and some states require prescribers of controlled substances to see those patients in person.

Does insurance cover Group therapy?

Many insurance plans provide coverage for group therapy provided there is a medical diagnosis for group members, but there are some noteworthy exceptions. For example, Medicare does not always cover group therapy. Group therapy tends to cost less than individual therapy.

Does insurance cover Couples therapy?

Most insurance companies do not cover the cost of couples therapy because there is no medical diagnosis or medically necessary treatment. However, a few plans will offer a limited benefit, so it is still worth checking with your insurance company. Sometimes therapy is covered for a couple when one person has a diagnosis and another family member joins them for joint therapy, but it is considered therapy for the medical condition that includes a family member as a listener or helper, not couples counseling. Without insurance, most clients pay between $100-300 per 60-90 min session for couples therapy. Often clients can find classes or workshops that make it more affordable to work on their relationship. And some employers offer benefit plans that help defray the cost of couples therapy.
