I strive to be relationship focused in all I do as a counselor, even in my individual work. I believe the research and have observed how loneliness hurts: we thrive when connected and struggle when isolated. I utilize EFT and the Gottman Method with couples; I focus on family work with children because individual play therapy is often unhelpful, in the long-term; Filial Play Therapy and PCIT are my favorites models for parents with their children. I utilize ACT and Arbinger principles in most of my work. I foster connections with my clients but especially between clients and their people, including their spiritual Connection.
I believe in people’s own wisdom and listen with the intent to help people follow their own values. I believe in empowerment and practice therapy in such a way as to help my clients lead therapy with guidance and input from me but where they are the decision-makers. I work within parenting, couple, and intrapersonal relationships to reconcile and unify.
I find a lot of the identifications today to be unhealthy in that no one is just one part of themself; I believe we need to focus to acknowledge all parts of ourselves and find ways to live our values without ignoring aspects of ourselves but also not give full license to one part of us to run the whole show. We can be very deliberately who we are.
