My name is Tyania (ty-an-nuh) and I am a Black, queer, cisgender licensed therapist (LCMHCA) offering individual therapy in Durham, NC. My approach is rooted in the idea that profound healing occurs in the context of relationships. Our lives are dictated by the relationships that we do or don’t have, and a large part of how we discover ourselves is through reflection and feedback - being seen and understood by another. Being your authentic self can be challenging for many reasons, which is why I strive to make our time together a place of refuge where you can be your true self (or have the space to figure out who your true self is).
I am passionate about working with those from historically disempowered/oppressed communities, including BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, and people with disabilities. I operate with the understanding that our mental health cannot be disentangled from systems of white supremacy, ableism, capitalism, and the like;
to that end, I am committed to serving as a source of healing, empowerment, and support. My style is open, collaborative, and person-centered, informed by psychodynamic, relational-cultural, strengths-based, and attachment-based therapy approaches. If you have any questions about me, my approach, or availability, please don’t hesitate to reach out!
