Hi! I'm so glad you found your way here. Taking that first step and reaching out to a counselor can be hard. Often clients reach out when they feel stuck, overwhelmed or worried about difficulties in their lives or their relationships. They feel exhausted and unable to find a clear path forward. Sometimes they are outwardly high achieving and/or caring for many people, but internally stuck and feeling disconnected. I work with women, teens, and young children/parents to help them reconnect with their true self-the one underneath all the roles, expectations and noise.

The world is a tough place right now. We're all living in a state of constant stress. When we think we have it all figured out, life throws us a curve ball, political ups & downs, the death of a loved one or becoming a caregiver. Imagine adding a layer of anxiety or depression. What about introversion? Just for fun, let's also add a layer for people that identify as LGBTQ+. Coming out as gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, non binary, or gender fluid can be confusing for your straight, cis family and friends. Whether you identify with this because you experience this regularly or someone you love feels this way.

In my work I have found that people come to therapy when life has thrown them a curve that they are not sure how to negotiate. Whether it be an unmanageable relationship, excessive anxiety, or recurring depression. Therapy is a resource to help you deal with the issues that keep you stuck in old patterns. Through active listening and reflection, I can help you identify contributing facets of the issue. Together we can look at the whole picture and find the best way to move forward.

I see good psychotherapy as a collaborative process guided by your needs. I strongly believe that individuals and families have inherent strengths that can help them deal effectively with their problems and make meaningful change. However, many people are too busy or too overwhelmed to figure out what changes they would like to make or to develop the strengths needed to make those changes. Fortunately, we've learned a lot in recent years about creating change--psychological, emotional, and behavioral. When you come in, we will work together to decide what changes you want to make and how.

I love making space for...
Those of us who can't seem to turn off those anxious thoughts or feel overwhelmed by the never ending "what ifs." Those of us who feel lost and confused about who we are, what we believe or how to love ourselves.
The one who has experienced pain, hurt, or trauma and doesn't know what to do next to experience some relief.

Female Therapists
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or because they feel more comfortable with a therapist of their own gender due to shared life experiences or perspectives. Considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender may matter or improve their therapeutic experience. The most important consideration is that a client is able to build a trusting relationship with their therapist.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist. For women, this could be because they believe that they will be able to better connect with a woman, and that a female therapist will be able to relate to their specific challenges and personal issues. It may be particularly beneficial for women to see a female therapist, for example, for gender-specific issues, such as sexism in the workplace, relationship issues, and gender roles. The most important factor in therapy is the client-therapist connection, and a therapist's gender as well as many other factors may play an important role in this.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
