My ideal client is someone who is interested in investing in themselves. When I sense they are working clients who are passionate about getting into the deeper details: to learn that they are truly and genuinely worthy of love and are worth great value. I feel so excited to relate with them, and share stories, to understand their story.

I specialize in treating disordered eating patterns and eating disorders and specialize in supporting parents during pregnancy and postpartum.
Parenthood can be a wonderful time in a person’s life and one of the most trying. For many of us, parenthood isn’t what we thought it would be and that can bring up new and old wounds. Pregnancy, postpartum, and parenting can feel overwhelming and isolating whether you’re dealing with pregnancy loss, complications, postpartum depression or anxiety, or difficulty in regulating your own emotions while you help your kids regulate theirs. Many parents struggle with body changes during and after pregnancy and throughout life changes, and I’m here to help navigate the discomfort in dealing with these body changes.

You might be feeling stretched thin, trying to juggle parenthood and daily life while managing anxiety, depression, or intrusive thoughts. Maybe you see your child struggling and you want to help them, but aren't sure how. Or perhaps you're struggling with food and body image and just need a space where you don't feel judged or misunderstood. Deep down, what you want is some relief and a sense of hope that things can feel more manageable.

I knew it would be hard, but why does everyone else seem to be handling it better than me?" "I'm doing it right, but I don't feel like enough." I get it! This period in life is different and difficult. Life transitions, like going off to college, living on your own, parenting, marriage, adulting, and divorce are all fraught with self-doubt and judgments.

Welcome! I’m so happy that you have taken this step to find peace, truth, and healing. Due to negative experiences we have had to endure, many times we learn unhelpful behaviors and beliefs over time. I believe that healing takes place when you have someone to walk alongside to create space where you can safely deal with what concerns you without shame and without judgement. My goal is to create that space and to be that person who will walk with you as you confront what is no longer serving you and develop lasting change.

Choosing counseling can be a monumental step in life's journey. I consider it a privilege to come along side you as you are seeking insight, growth and change. I enjoy working with women via telehealth therapy. My approach to counseling involves consideration of the whole person. Your mind, your body and your spirit. I utilize several counseling theories - Cognitive Behavioral, Solution-Focused, Emotion-Focused, and Accelerated Resolution Therapy among others. Mostly though, I focus on meeting you where you are and without judgment so that you can experience the growth you desire.

One day I was asked if I could have any superpower, what would it be and why? I replied, “The power of healing. If I could take away other people’s burdens, then I feel that I have done what is desperately needed for the world.” In a world full of suffering and pain, we all seek to be seen and have our voices heard. However, finding someone you can trust and open up to can be difficult. This broken world is hard to not give up on, but I am here to tell you that you are not alone. I want to walk with you through your journey and help see you through it. Life can throw many trials our way, but you do not have to navigate it alone.

What happens in therapy for eating disorders?
In therapy for eating disorders, patients typically describe their eating and exercise behaviors, their patterns of eating in relation to stress, their beliefs about their body, the ways their eating behavior affects their relationships, and their desire (or lack of it) to change. Such information helps the therapist understand the origins of the disorder and the role it plays in the patient’s life, important for guiding treatment. Attitudes and feelings about food and eating, body weight, and physical appearance are common topics of discussion throughout treatment.

What therapy types help with eating disorders?
Once any acute medical or psychiatric emergency is resolved, psychoactive medication is often prescribed, requiring the supervision of a psychiatrist. In addition, patients receive some form of nutritional counseling along with one or more forms of psychotherapy. For adolescents, family-based treatment is empirically validated and considered the first line of treatment; parents and their children meet weekly with a clinician as the adults are coached on how to nourish and psychologically support the young patient. Adults typically receive some form of individual psychotherapy, intended to resolve the cognitive and behavioral disturbances that underlie the disorder and to relieve the mood disturbances that accompany it. In addition, patients may also be helped by group therapy.

What is the goal of therapy for eating disorders?
The most immediate goal of treatment for eating disorders is to save the life of people who are on a path of starving themselves to death or engaging in eating patterns that are doing irreparable physical harm to their body. Once the acute medical danger is past, therapy is required to understand the nature of the disordered eating and/or exercise patterns, establish healthy eating behavior, and to tackle the many erroneous beliefs and distorted self-perceptions that underlie eating disorders and continue to pose a threat to health and life. Therapy also addresses the impaired mood that not only accompanies eating disorders but intensifies the danger to health and life.

What are the limitations of therapy for eating disorders?
Therapy can be very helpful for eating disorders—but that can happen only after people recognize they have a condition that must be treated. Especially with anorexia, the distortions in self-image that accompany the disorder can keep people from acknowledging they have a problem. Individuals may in fact see their eating disorder as a badge of self-control. Those with binge-eating disorder may feel too ashamed to seek help. Therapy cannot help those who do not avail themselves of it.

How long does therapy last for eating disorders?
Because of their complexity, recovery from eating disorders is usually a long-term process—measured in months and years— often marked by setbacks and relapse. Some form of help, such as individual or group therapy, may be advisable for much of that time. It is a general rule of thumb that the longer the illness has endured and the dysregulated eating behavior has taken root, the longer treatment is likely to be needed.
