There are moments when you’re drowning in your emotions. Everything hits too hard, too deep, or too raw. One wrong look or delayed text sends you spiraling because you’re terrified of being abandoned or discarded. Rage flares and then disappears, leaving guilt in its place. You say things you don’t mean, then drown in anxiety and shame for saying them. It’s exhausting to live in a body that feels unsafe and
a mind that never slows down. You’ve worked on it, but you still feel like you’re too much or not enough. You’re tired of the shame, overwhelm, and chaos, but you’re starting to think that real healing might not be possible.

I work with tweens (11+), teens, and adults, including high achievers, people pleasers, and LGBTQ+ clients, who are navigating burnout, identity, relationships, and overwhelm. Many feel responsible for everyone else but struggle to care for themselves, overthink everything, or feel disconnected from who they are. Even if things look “fine” on the outside, internally it can feel exhausting. Therapy becomes a space to slow down, understand what’s underneath, and reconnect with yourself in a more honest, sustainable way.

Have you spent years overthinking your emotions instead of feeling them, caring for others before yourself, or surviving through perfectionism, self-criticism, people-pIeasing, disordered eating, self-harm, or emotional shutdown? I work with thoughtful, sensitive adults who are highly self-aware yet still feel disconnected from their needs, emotions, identity, or sense of safety. They want to better understand themselves and heal the deeper wounds underlying their anxiety, trauma, self-destructive coping, and relational struggles. I especially enjoy supporting people recovering from shame-based environments and rigid belief systems.

Seeking professional help is a significant and empowering personal decision. It’s an opportunity to sort through troubling thoughts and feelings, overcome obstacles, and search for new solutions and pathways for positive change and growth. It’s an acknowledgement of the desire and need to look at one’s life from a different perspective. I believe one of the most important components for guiding clients through this process is the establishment of a supportive, compassionate, and nonjudgmental therapeutic relationship. Within this framework, I strive to offer understanding, reassurance, acceptance, and hope.

If you’re reading this, chances are you’ve been carrying a lot—maybe it’s the constant cycle of anxiety or OCD, the heaviness of depression, or the struggle of managing body-focused repetitive behaviors (BFRBs) like hair pulling or skin picking. You might feel exhausted from second-guessing yourself, tired of intrusive thoughts running the show, or frustrated by the weight of responsibilities that leave little space for you. At the same time, you want relief. You want to feel steady, confident, and more present in your own life.

Women's Issues Therapists
How do you encourage a woman to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual may be suffering, and what effects it has on them, should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
How can women prepare for therapy?
Women can prepare for therapy by being willing to talk about their past experiences and their private thoughts. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. Between sessions, it can be useful to write down notes about their reaction to a given event or how they felt at a particular time.
How long does therapy for women’s issues often last?
As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual and the challenges they face. Therapy types like Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Prolonged exposure therapy (PET), and Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. In some cases, such as for women with eating disorders, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.
How can women overcome stigma around specific challenges in order to seek therapy?
Women dealing with domestic abuse, sexual assault, eating disorders, and any other number of troubles may feel a stigma around seeking help. It’s important to remember that these issues are not uncommon and there is no shame in getting help for them. Therapy is confidential, and women can talk about their experiences without fear of judgment. Seeking therapy can be a courageous and liberating act, and an important step toward healing and recovery.
