Our life experiences can interfere with the trust we have in ourselves, leaving us with thoughts like “I don’t know what I want”, or “I don’t deserve XYZ”. This is especially true for those of us who have experienced
trauma
, have lived through difficult circumstances, have endured abuse in childhood, and who are struggling to survive in oppressive systems. In our work together, I hope that we will establish a trusting relationship over time, and that you will be empowered to move towards the life you envision for yourself. You’re capable and worthy, and it’s all possible.

I use IFS, the Comprehensive Resource Model (CRM), Interpersonal Neurobiology, memory reconsolidation,
trauma
-sensitive mindfulness and EMDR to address
trauma
in the body.
Welcome! I work with adult individuals and couples using "parts-work" and other
trauma
-focused somatic approaches to address symptoms such as depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, difficulty with setting boundaries and chronic shame. You might have tried talk therapy or EMDR and found those to be helpful yet are still struggling with some of the same symptoms you'd come to therapy for. I can help with that. Through working on integrating all of your "parts," you can come to experience more ease and a sense of internal coherence that in turn supports you in making some of the changes that you're longing for.

I also work with clients on issues of anxiety and depressive disorders and the co-occurrence of
trauma
and
trauma
-related disorders.
Regardless of what brings you to therapy, I hold an immense amount of compassion for your journey that led you here. It is a huge, courageous step to ask for help and to decide to make a change! In session, I care about your felt safety, trust and vulnerability. This means that you will set the pace of therapy. The majority of my clients have goals to improve their relationship with body and food, however our work together is not limited to those issues. Along with eating disorders, my sweet spot in therapy is partnering with clients to navigate life transitions, mood related issues and
trauma
.

Apart from practical and overtly experiential methods, I also provide
trauma
-informed talk therapy (using NARM, the Neuroaffective Relational Model), and I welcome clients of any or no faith background at all.
Do you ever feel like your actions don't make sense, and you don't know why you end up doing what you do and feeling how you feel? Like maybe YOU don't make sense? I have been there too, and I believe there are reasons behind what we believe and how we act. Part of my intention is to help you develop insight into your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors, as well as to provide a safe space for you to feel whatever stirs inside of you. By paying attention to all of your experience, we can learn more about your inner process, begin to disentangle that process from self-judgment, and help you find meaning in your struggles and triumphs.

I have been trained in many approaches, but now focus on
trauma
work and couples therapy.
Clients describe my therapeutic style as interactive, warm, and reassuring. It isn't easy to disclose personal challenges, but my clients have responded pretty quickly to my efforts to build rapport, explore issues, and experiment with solutions. Sometimes this work has been about learning new coping skills, and sometimes the work has been about digging deeply into the past to uproot old patterns that dampen the spirit. In my work with clients--whether individual or couples--I include a focus on integrating body awareness into the work of the heart and mind, so that more profound healing may take place.

Though I have experience with most types of problems from job stress, substance abuse, relationship issues, depression, anxiety, and life transitions, my specialty is
trauma
work.
I believe therapy is a process helps people to fully participate in their lives. I use several therapeutic styles and a collaborative approach. Together, we identify "the problem," then explore obstacles that block the process. The goal is wholeness and healing and you, as the client, decide what that looks like. Building a safe, respectful and trusting relationship is essential for success ---- as the client defines "success." I also believe that even in the most dire of circumstances, we can find joy, hope and even laughter. I enjoy playing a part in that with my clients.

Life can be difficult sometimes for teens, adults, and parents. Childhood
trauma
, breaking generational cycles, or sudden life events can make us feel alone and unable to face our fears. This emotional pain can bring symptoms of depression and anxiety, cause a change in behavior and sleep or cause family conflict. You may ask yourself why did this happen to me? Or will I ever feel like myself? It all can feel overwhelming! As your therapist, I will walk with you as you process these changes to heal, grow, and empower yourself.

When should I seek treatment for trauma?
Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.
How long does trauma therapy take?
Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.
What happens if trauma is left untreated?
Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.
Can PTSD come back after treatment?
It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
