We live in a time when self-help tools abound, yet there are times we can't meditate enough, go for a long enough run, read another book or medicate out of a difficult situation. Many of life's traumas are relational in nature. We need a therapeutic relationship to help us heal from these traumas and find new ways of interacting. We need to feel seen, heard and supported emotionally by another person. And we need to trust that what we're saying will be held in strictest confidence. Welcome to Goodwin Counseling where I am committed to helping clients live happier, healthy lives.

I specialize in supporting people whom others rely on: leaders, medical professionals, caregivers; those suffering from the impacts of complex trauma and PTSD; & those integrating a late-life, high-masking neurodivergence. You’ve spent a lifetime being dependable for others, but now you feel like you’re running on empty. Trauma isn’t always one event—it can be years of carrying responsibility, loss, or stress without relief. You may look steady while inside you feel anxious, exhausted, or disconnected. Together we will untangle survival patterns, reconnect with the body, and find new ways of living that feel authentic.

You deserve something more than sympathy, validation, platitudes, or motivation. You deserve real help, real solutions, real tools. You deserve guidance that works and change that lasts.

I draw from Person-Centered, Psychodynamic, DBT, and Exposure-based approaches, tailoring treatment to your individual needs rather than using a one-size-fits-all approach.
Are you anxious person spending a lot of time overthinking, second-guessing yourself, or stuck on "What if?" In my therapy sessions, I create a space for you to slow down, make sense of what you're experiencing, and learn how to make decisions more confidently. With a treatment plan specifically created for you, I'll teach you what anxiety is and how to best manage it. I'm also bilingual, so speak to me in English, Spanish, or Spanish and together we can start navigating your worries that are holding you back.

Have you spent years overthinking your emotions instead of feeling them, caring for others before yourself, or surviving through perfectionism, self-criticism, people-pIeasing, disordered eating, self-harm, or emotional shutdown? I work with thoughtful, sensitive adults who are highly self-aware yet still feel disconnected from their needs, emotions, identity, or sense of safety. They want to better understand themselves and heal the deeper wounds underlying their anxiety, trauma, self-destructive coping, and relational struggles. I especially enjoy supporting people recovering from shame-based environments and rigid belief systems.

You may be naturally reflective and articulate—and yet something feels distant, muted, or just out of reach. I work with thoughtful, introspective adults navigating dissociation, identity concerns and experiences that resist easy explanation: depersonalization/derealization (DP/DR), spiritual or near-death experiences, and other encounters that changed everything but left few roadmaps. My style is depth-oriented (yet practical & highly intentional), collaborative, and a bit unconventional—I bring in science, metaphor & the occasional film reference to make psychological experiences feel more real and less isolating.

People often reach out when something important has become difficult to navigate. A relationship may be in crisis, conflict in a family may keep repeating, or divorce, grief, or another major transition may have changed the shape of life. You may be facing a decision where every option seems to carry a high cost. Therapy can help us slow down the moment to see what we're sometimes too close to see. I draw on clinical training and more than 20 years in business, with an interest in understanding the whole picture for individuals, couples, and families.

Psychodynamic Therapists
Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?
Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?
Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?
Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?
Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
