I work with individuals and couples/intimate partnerships that need help navigating trauma/PTSD, neurodivergence, and LGBTQ+ issues with a special interest in ADHD, neurodiverse couples, and individuals/couples navigating complex trauma.
I utilize a blend of interpersonal neurobiology, EMDR, narrative, and IFS approaches to help my clients understand their story and the ways they have power to change it. I embrace a systemic and non-pathologizing approach to therapy; too often rational responses to stress and harm are stigmatized, and I make it a point to break that cycle.

We live in a time when self-help tools abound, yet there are times we can't meditate enough, go for a long enough run, read another book or medicate out of a difficult situation. Many of life's traumas are relational in nature. We need a therapeutic relationship to help us heal from these traumas and find new ways of interacting. We need to feel seen, heard and supported emotionally by another person. And we need to trust that what we're saying will be held in strictest confidence. Welcome to Goodwin Counseling where I am committed to helping clients live happier, healthy lives.

As a multicultural ADHD person myself, I strive to provide support that includes laughter, an understanding of broader systemic and cultural impacts.
I think of therapy like working out with a physical trainer but for your brain. We will meet once a week, do the tough stuff together then you’ll go out in the world and practice your skills to keep making gains. Unfortunately, since it’s your brain that changes, we won’t have any cool before and after pictures. As with a trainer, we will work together to set goals and finding out what has and has not helped you in the past. This will allow me to best serve your needs. My intention is to help you be the best version of yourself.

Adults I work with may be navigating life transitions, relationship challenges, or past trauma that still impacts their daily lives. I have extensive experience working with neurodivergent individuals and love helping my clients grow.

I'm glad you're here.
At my core, I believe in liberation- on a collective and individual level; freedom from all systems of oppression, and freedom from the ghosts of trauma that haunt us.
My clients are often those who have been told they are "too much," feel like the black sheep, or are leaders, creatives, or generational curse breakers. The bulk of my clients are neurodivergent people of color, highly sensitive, or live somewhere on the spectrum.

When should I seek treatment for ADHD?
You should seek treatment for ADHD if you consistently have difficulty with attention, hyperactivity, or impulsivity that interferes with your daily life. Symptoms of ADHD include the inability to sustain attention during tasks, difficulty organizing tasks and activities, being easily distracted, frequent fidgeting or squirming, and talking or interrupting excessively. If these symptoms interfere with your career, academics, or relationships—for example, consistently failing to complete professional projects on time—you should seek an evaluation for ADHD.
How does treatment for ADHD work?
Effective treatment for ADHD often consists of medication, behavioral therapy, and lifestyle changes. Stimulant medications such as Adderall and Ritalin work by altering levels of neurotransmitters in the brain; higher levels of dopamine and norepinephrine are known to improve attention and focus. Therapy works by helping people with ADHD understand the condition, discuss their areas of difficulty, and develop behavioral strategies to manage their symptoms. In some cases, modifying one’s diet and exercise can also help improve symptoms.
Are there specific medications for ADHD?
Medications to treat ADHD are generally stimulants, the most common are Adderall and Ritalin. There are two categories of stimulants: Amphetamines include Adderall, Dyanavel, Vyvanse, and Dexedrine, and methylphenidates include Ritalin, Concerta, Daytrana, Focalin, Quillichew, Quillivant, and Metadate. Non-stimulants and antidepressants may be used as an alternative if stimulants aren’t effective or viable for a particular patient.
How long does treatment for ADHD take?
It’s tough to give an exact time frame because everyone varies. In terms of medications, stimulants begin to work very soon after you take them, generally within the hour. It may take time to identify the right medication and dosage, but the medication itself is fast-acting. In terms of therapy, it takes time to develop skills and put them into practice, but you will likely see improvements within a few weeks or months.
