I offer therapy sessions in-person only on weekends.
At times, life can feel like SO much. Whether you’re dealing with stress, relationship struggles, identity questions, or feeling stuck in patterns you can’t seem to break, you don’t have to have it all figured out to start. I strive to create a space where you can show up as your full, authentic self, without judgment or pressure. I believe therapy should reflect you - which is why I tailor my approach to your unique experiences, strengths, and challenges. Whether you’re looking for support, clarity, or growth, you don’t have to navigate it alone. Healing isn’t about changing who you are - it’s about reconnecting with yourself.

, with some Saturday availability both on-line and in-person.
I help those who appear to have it all together but feel overwhelmed, exhausted, and disconnected from themselves. Many are navigating ADHD, burnout, life transitions, relationship challenges, body image concerns, anxiety, or the pressure of constantly caring for everyone else. They often struggle to prioritize their own needs without guilt. Together, we identify patterns that keep them stuck, build healthier boundaries, strengthen self-worth, and create a life that feels more balanced, authentic, and sustainable.

As a therapist, I get excited about the opportunity for change in a person’s life. I take a holistic approach, considering the many factors that affect a client’s mental and emotional state, not just the presenting problem. My goal is to connect with a person in such a way that allows me to understand the influences - family, friends, environment and medication - that contribute to their specific situation. My background as a Licensed Professional Counselor, certified teacher and school counselor, as well as working for 16+ years with at-risk individuals, from four years to adult, allows me to treat a wide range of clients.

We offer In Person and Virtual appointments for Children, Teens, Adults, and Families.
Counselors (also called therapists) are good listeners who know how to help. A therapy session often feels like a good conversation with a trusted friend. You'll begin by working with your counselor to identify your specific goals for therapy, and then you will work together to achieve them.

I've worked with adolescence and families for around 25 years in a variety of settings. These settings include being a youth / children's pastor prior to starting my counseling journey. Much of my experience involves working with those that struggle with abuse, depression, relationship conflict, self harming behaviors, legal issues, and behavior problems. Although I am licensed to practice counseling through the State of Texas, I am a Christian and the fundamentals of my practice are in line with traditional Christian faith.

Licensed Professional Counselor, MS, BS, LPC, CHT
Waxahachie, TX 75165
I am a Survivor of domestic violence. My name is Dr. Wanda R.W. McKinley, and I went through over 22 consecutive years of abuse. When we go through traumatic experiences in our lives, we sometimes find it hard to express our feelings and thoughts to others. Those trapped emotions eventually find their way to the surface and causes us to react in negative ways. Being a Survivor I understand the importance of being able to express yourself even if it is not verbally. I want to help individuals transition from abusive situations to being self-sufficient in society. The vision is to empower men and women so they can and will survive.

FAQ - About In Person Therapy
What are the benefits of in-person therapy?
In-person therapy offers several benefits that some people find highly valuable for their mental health treatment. Being present in the same room as your therapist can create a stronger sense of connection and allow for more nuanced communication through body language. Some people may also find it easier to focus in therapy when they are in a dedicated space and away from potential distractions related to home or work; attending an in-person session provides a clear boundary between therapy time and the rest of your life. For certain therapeutic approaches, such as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), exposure therapy, or somatic therapy, being in person may be particularly important, as these therapies benefit from the therapist being able to observe and respond to a client’s physical cues effectively. Additionally, some individuals simply feel more comfortable discussing sensitive or painful topics when they are face-to-face with their therapist rather than on a screen.

When should I choose in-person therapy over online therapy?
In-person therapy may be a better choice when you need a structured therapeutic environment separate from your daily life, when you find it difficult to focus or feel comfortable in an online setting, or when privacy at home is a concern. It may also be more appropriate if you are dealing with severe mental health symptoms that require close monitoring or if your therapy involves approaches that rely heavily on observing physical cues. On the other hand, if convenience, scheduling flexibility, or access to specialists outside your immediate area are priorities, online therapy may be a better fit. Many therapists offer both options, so you can also discuss with a provider which format might work best for your specific situation.

How do I find an in-person therapist?
You can use Psychology Today's therapist directory to find an in-person therapist in your area. You can search by location, insurance accepted, specialty areas, therapeutic approaches, and other criteria to narrow down providers who meet your needs. Each therapist profile includes information about their credentials, areas of expertise, and whether they offer in-person sessions. Once you have identified potential therapists, you can contact them directly through the directory to schedule an initial consultation and determine whether they are a good fit before committing to ongoing treatment. When reaching out, it can be helpful to confirm their availability for in-person appointments, their office location, and whether they accept your insurance.
