The following sessions will be play-based interventions with the child or adolescent in order to meet our goals and learn new skills to help them be successful.
Life is a journey, and journeys are more manageable with a strong support system. My passion is working with children and families to navigate daily stress, anxiety, learn coping strategies for big changes or traumas, and building skills to be more successful in a variety of environments. My philosophy when working with children and adolescents is using play and creativity to learn a mix of abstract and concrete strategies in a safe environment. Let me support you and your child as they navigate emotional regulation, anxiety, depression, social skills, and transitions such as moving, divorce, or loss of a loved one.

Life demands so much from us, pulling us in multiple directions and into spaces where we find ourselves coasting, engaging half-heartedly with ourselves and those around us. Over time, our true selves can feel fragmented by grief, change, relationships, trauma, and the stories we carry. Depression, anxiety, anger, and grief often fill these cracks, leaving us feeling heavy, tired, and overwhelmed.

Have you ever thought – what distinguishes healthy relationships that are able to thrive from unhealthy ones that tend to be full of stress? Is it self-will? Determination? As a couples and family therapist, I believe the one distinguishing factor is "attachment". Attachment is the ability to connect with others. Depending on our ability (or inability) to attach interpersonally, determines the overall satisfaction we experience within our intimate relationships. Also, having been a victim of racism, I opened this practice as a place that people of color can heal from the impact of both blatant and systemic oppression.

I work primarily with adults and older adolescents who are thoughtful and self-aware, yet still find themselves repeating painful emotional patterns, struggling in relationships, feeling overwhelmed by anxiety, panic, self-doubt, or the lasting effects of trauma.
I help clients who feel stuck in painful emotional or relationship patterns despite being thoughtful and self-aware. Therapy with me focuses on understanding the deeper meaning beneath reactions and experiences while building greater clarity, emotional stability, healthier boundaries, and more authentic ways of relating to themselves and others.

As a therapist that is trained in a Health Psychology / Behavioral Medicine emphasis, I encourage us to look at how our mind / body / and spirituality are all interconnected. Where as I may pull from varying schools of thought such as Psychodynamic, Cognitive/Behavioural, Humanistic/Person Centred, and Existentialism I find that looking at how these experiences effect our thoughts, feelings, and behaviours can give us insight into how we can become more wholly integrated and mentally healthy along our journey.

Hello! I am a bilingual Registered Play Therapist that offers play therapy for children ages 3-18 years old who experience anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress symptoms, ADHD, autism, mood disorders, and behavioral challenges. I practice from a client-centered approach where I allow the client to lead their sessions. Dr. Landreth said “In play therapy, toys are viewed as the child’s words and play as the child’s language.” In therapy, I have witnessed incredible bravery, compassion, and trust. I offer the care, patience, and understanding to assist children in finding safe and expressive ways to process and heal.

FAQ - Teenage and Adolescent Therapists
What does therapy for teenagers look like?
When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.

How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?
There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.

How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.

How do you prepare teens for therapy?
You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
